Grandeza de España

A Grandeza de España é a máxima dignidade da nobreza española na xerarquía nobiliaria, pois está situada inmediatamente logo da de infante, que está reservada aos fillos do rei de España e aos do príncipe de Asturias. É outorgada polo rei e xeralmente vai unida a un título nobiliario, polo que é hereditaria, aínda que en ocasións concédese de forma vitalicia a unha persoa en concreto, como os fillos dos infantes de España, que non herdan o tratamento dos seus proxenitores. É tamén a máis alta dignidade da súa clase de toda Europa, pois os seus privilexios foron maiores que os doutras figuras similares europeas, como os pares de Francia ou os peers do Reino Unido

A súa orixe atópase nas antigas monarquías visigodas, aínda que non é ata o reinado de Carlos I de España no século XVI cando comeza a regularse e establecerse como a coñecemos na actualidade.

Na actualidade preto de 400 títulos nobiliarios ostentan a Grandeza de España. Asóciase tradicionalmente aos duques, pero pode acompañar aos títulos de marqués, conde, vizconde, barón e señor. Os netos do Rei, fillos dos Infantes de España, de acordo coa lexislación vixente (Real Decreto 1368/1987), reciben tamén o tratamento de Grandes de España.
