O dólar de prata do Xardín Botánico dos Estados Unidos é unha moeda conmemorativa, non circulante, emitida pola Casa da Moeda dos Estados Unidos en 1997 e cuñada pola Ceca de Filadelfia.

Esta moeda dun dólar foi autorizada pola Lei 103-328, do 29 de setembro de 1994,[1] pola que se creaba unha moeda conmemorativa para conmemorar o 175º aniversario Xardín Botánico dos Estados Unidos, en Washington, promovido polos Pais Fundadores George Washington, Thomas Jefferson e James Madison, e creado en 1820 polo presidente James Monroe.[2]

Deseño

Os deseños do dólar de prata do Xardín Botánico dos Estados Unidos foron aprobados en xaneiro de 1997 polo secretario do Tesouro.[3]

O anverso desta moeda, deseñado por Edgard Z. Steever, representa en primeiro termo a figura dunha rosa como flor nacional, baixo unha grilanda de rosas.[2][4]

Pola súa banda, no seu reverso, creado por William C. Cousins, reprodúcese unha imaxe da fachada francesa con múltiples arcos do edificio do Xardín Botánico dos Estados Unidos en Washington.[2][4]

Produción e comercialización

A lei que autorizou a emisión destas moedas conmemorativas prevía unha tiraxe máxina de 500.000 exemplares. A moeda produciuse na Casa da Moeda de Filadelfia e estivo dispoñible para a súa adquisición por parte da poboación a partir de 21 de febreiro de 1997.[5] A a súa produción foi de 58.505 exemplares en coindición estándar e 189.671 con acabamento especial (proof); é dicir, un total de 248.176 exemplares, algo menos da metade da tiraxe máxima autorizada.[2][6]

A moeda comercializouse cunha recarga no seu custo e o beneficio conseguido coa súa venda destinouse ao Fondo Nacional para o Xardín Botánico dos Estados Unidos.[2]
