Despina, (ou en latín Despœna, grego Δέσποινα), tamén coñecida coma Neptuno V, é o terceiro satélite máis interior de Neptuno. Chamada máis tarde Despina, unha ninfa que era filla de Poseidón e Deméter (Demetra).

Despina foi descuberta a finais do mes de xullo do 1989 a partir de imaxes da sonda espacial Voyager 2. Déuselle a designación temporal S/1989 N 3[6]. O descubrimento foi anunciado (IAUC 4824) o 2 de agosto do 1989, pero o texto só fala de "10 fotogramas tomados no transcorrer de 5 días", dando unha data do descubrimento que debeu ser algúns días antes do 28 de xullo. O nome foille outorgado o 16 de setembro de 1991[7].

Despina é de forma irregular e non amosa signos de modificacións xeolóxicas. É máis coma unha pila de cascallos "reagrupados" a partir de fragmentos de satélites orixinais de Neptuno, os cales foron pulverizados polas perturbacións de Tritón pouco despois de que a lúa fose capturada na súa moi excéntrica órbita inicial[8].

A órbita de Despina descansa próxima pero non dentro da órbita de Talasa e xusto dentro do anel de Le Verrier. E coma está por debaixo do radio das órbitas sincrónicas de Neptuno, está pois nunha lenta espiral cara ó planeta debido ó efecto de desaceleración que as mareas gravitatorias provocan e eventualmente podería impactar contra a atmosfera de Neptuno, ou partirse, creando unha anel planetario unha vez traspasado o límite de Roche, debido á dispersión dos fragmentos da lúa.
