Cáliz (botánica)

O cáliz, en Botánica, é o verticilo externo nas flores con perianto heteroclamídeo, é dicir, con dúas clases de pezas. Componse de sépalos, que son follas florais estériles, xeralmente verdes e de consistencia herbácea. Ten función protectora.

Características

Se os sépalos están libres entre eles, o cáliz chámase dialisépalo, mentres que se están unidos chámase gamosépalo como no "caravel" (Dianthus caryophyllus, cariofiláceas) ou o "seibo" (Erythrina crista-galli (leguminosas).

Cando o cáliz é gamosépalo pódense distinguir tres partes ben definidas: o tubo, que é a porción na cal os sépalos están unidos; a gorxa, que é o sitio na os sépalos sepáranse uns doutros; e o limbo, que é a poción libre, formada polos extremos apicais de cada sépalo ou lóbulos.

Os sépalos poden ter consistencia e forma variadas. Nas compostas, por exemplo, os sépalos están reducidos a pelos ou porcas que constitúen o denominado papo.

Segundo a súa duración con respecto ás outras pezas florais, o cáliz pode ser efémero ou fugaz, cando os sépalos caen ao abrirse a flor, como na "papoula" (Papaver rhoeas, papaveráceas); deciduo, cando os sépalos despréndense despois de que ocorreu a fecundación; ou persistente cando permanece despois da fecundación e acompaña ao froito, como no caso da "maceira" (Malus domestica, rosáceas).)[1].

A anatomía do cáliz é, entre todas as pezas florais, a que máis lembra á dos nomófilos (follas normais). O mesofilo está formado xeralmente por parénquima clorofiliano homoxéneo. Xeralmente en cada especie, cada sépalo está innervado polo mesmo número de trazas foliares que presentan os nomófilos[2].
