Un ouvrage est un « objet résultant d'un travail (plus précisément du travail d'un ouvrier, d'un artisan ou encore d'un artiste, notamment d'un point de vue technique) »[1].

Ce terme s'applique dans différents domaines.

Dans la construction

Un ouvrage dans le bâtiment est le résultat de la construction :

  • gros ouvrage ou ouvrage lourd qui constitue la structure, le gros œuvre ;
  • ouvrage léger ou menu ouvrage se disait de tous les ouvrages où l'on emploie le plâtre seul, ou le plâtre avec la latte; tels sont les crépis, les enduits, les tuyaux de cheminées, les aires de planchers, les plafonds, les hourdages et ravalements de cloisons et pans de bois, les corniches, entablements, moulures, plinthes, bandeaux, toutes saillies, et enfin, les divers scellements, etc.[2].
  • On parle d'ouvrage d'art pour désigner un pont, un viaduc, un tunnel et toute construction destinée au franchissement d'obstacle naturel par une route et/ou une voie ferrée.
  • ouvrages publics, construction relevant du domaine public sur lequel sont souvent réalisés des travaux publics, et utilisé à des besoins d'intérêt généraux. Exemple : Immeuble, stade, gymnase, cinéma, parc d'attraction, piscine municipale, zénith, école publique.

Une tâche est un ouvrage que doit faire un ouvrier dans un certain temps et pour un certain prix[3]
