NGC 2944 est une paire de galaxies spirales en interaction gravitationnelle située dans la constellation du Lion. Sa vitesse par rapport au fond diffus cosmologique est de 7 060 ± 20 km/s, ce qui correspond à une distance de Hubble de 104,1 ± 7,3 Mpc (∼340 millions d'al)[1]. NGC 2944 a été découverte par l'astronome autrichien Johann Palisa en 1886.

Cette paire est constituée des galaxies PGC 27533 au nord-est[3] et de PGC 27534[4].

Une troisième galaxie au sud-est (PGC 1990710) est également associée au deux premières, mais comme sa magnitude est de 3 unités plus faible (environ 17), elle n'était certes pas visible dans le télescope de Palisa[5].

Cette paire de galaxie, ou peut-être le groupe des trois galaxies, est utilisée par Halton Arp dans son atlas des galaxies particulières sous la cote Arp 63 comme un exemple d'une galaxie spirale avec un compagnon dont la brillance de surface est élevée[5].
