L'illégalisme est un courant de l'anarchisme qui s'est développé principalement en France, en Italie, en Belgique et en Suisse au début du XX^e siècle. Les illégalistes prônent l'adoption du banditisme révolutionnaire comme mode de vie, ouvertement ou secrètement. Le cambriolage et le vol étaient pratiqués sur de riches propriétaires, des patrons, des politiques, des clercs.

Description

Déjà, dans La Philosophie dans le boudoir (1795), Sade laisse une porte ouverte au vol comme réponse aux besoins de chacun et critique l'attribution des biens faite par la société. Il considère le vol comme la légitime réaction des forts contre l'ordre social (selon lui au service des faibles), conformément à un ordre naturel supérieur.

Dans L'Opéra de quat'sous (1928), de Bertolt Brecht, Mackie le Surineur peut ainsi être considéré comme un illégaliste, considérant le discours qu'il prononce avant son exécution.

Il y eut divers illégalistes, avec diverses méthodes. Les plus connus sont Marius Jacob (dont Maurice Leblanc s'inspirera pour écrire Arsène Lupin à partir de 1905), la bande à Bonnot et Georges Darien.

Pour l'écrivain Laurent Chollet, la résurgence de la délinquance révolutionnaire dans les années 1970 trouve ses origines dans le concept de « teppisme », désignant en italien les actions des « voyous » et des « vandales »^[1]. Ce concept est alors théorisé par des situationnistes.

Depuis les années 1970, l'illégalisme révolutionnaire est pratiqué par les autonomes à travers le mouvement des squats et le mouvement des mal logés. En France, la délinquance révolutionnaire a été défendue par des groupes comme Marge (1974-1979), Les Fossoyeurs du Vieux Monde (1979-1983), l'Association des Prisonniers En Lutte (APEL, 1981-1994), ou Os Cangaceiros (1985-1992). Par beaucoup d'aspects, la délinquance révolutionnaire se rapproche donc du mouvement anticarcéral.
