L'archidiocèse de Mbandaka-Bikoro est un archidiocèse de la République démocratique du Congo. L'archevêché compte 898 000 habitants, dont 40,5 % sont catholiques, répartis en 33 paroisses. Il compte 62 prêtres et 157 religieux. L'archevêque métropolitain est à la tête d'une province ecclésiastique qui compte six diocèses.

Histoire

Le diocèse trouve son origine dans la préfecture apostolique le 11 février 1924 à la suite de la division du Vicariat apostolique de Nouvelle-Anvers. La préfecture apostolique de la Tshuapa devint la préfecture apostolique de Coquilhatville le 28 janvier 1926, puis en 1932 le 15 mars un vicariat apostolique. Le est publiée la bulle sous forme de constitution apostolique Cum parvulum adoptée par la curie le 9 novembre précédent et signée le lendemain par le pape Jean XXIII, ce texte sous le nom de De Congo Belgico et Ruanda Urundi réorganise les circonscriptions ecclésiastiques du Congo belge, transformant la plupart des vicariats en diocèses[1]. L'archidiocèse est ainsi érigé sous le nom d'archidiocèse de Coquilhatville le 10 novembre 1959. Il est divisé le 11 septembre pour former le diocèse d'Ikela. Il va prendre le nom de l'archidiocèse de Mbandaka le 30 mai 1966 avec comme diocèses suffragants : Basankusu, Bokungu-Ikela, Budjala, Lisala, Lolo, Molegbe[2].
