Thomas Oppermann (2020)

Thomas Oppermann (27. huhtikuuta 1954, Freckenhorst[1] – 25. lokakuuta 2020, Göttingen[2]) oli saksalainen sosiaalidemokraattisen puolueen poliitikko.[3][4][5]

Oppermann opiskeli oikeustiedettä Göttingenissä ja suoritti asessoritutkinnon vuonna 1986. Hän kuului sosiaalidemokraattiseen puolueeseen vuodesta 1980 ja pääsi vuonna 1989 puolueensa Göttingenin-haaran puheenjohtajaksi. Hän istui vuosina 1990–2005 Ala-Saksin maapäivillä ja toimi Ala-Saksin tiede- ja kulttuuriministerinä 1998–2003. Oppermann valittiin ensimmäisen kerran Saksan liittopäivien jäseneksi vuonna 2005.[3] Hän toimi puolueensa parlamenttiryhmän johtajana vuosina 2013–2017 ja vuodesta 2017 yhtenä liittopäivien viidestä varapuheenjohtajasta. Elokuussa 2020 Oppermann ilmoitti, ettei asettuisi enää ehdokkaaksi vuoden 2021 liittopäivävaaleissa. Hän oli lyyhistynyt ennen aiottua televisioesiintymistä 25. lokakuuta ja kuljetettu sairaalahoitoon. Hän kuoli samana päivänä.[4][5]

Oppermannilla oli neljä lasta.[3]
