Nuortenkirjallisuus

Nuortenkirjallisuus on kirjallisuutta tai teoksia, jonka kohderyhmäksi on rajattu nuoriso. Lajityyppi rinnastetaan monesti lastenkirjallisuuteen, jolloin siitä puhutaan lasten- ja nuortenkirjallisuutena.

Joitakin alan toimijoita

Suuri osa lasten- ja nuortenkirjoja on julkaistu sarjoina, esimerkiksi Enid Blytonin Viisikko, Astrid Lindgrenin Peppi Pitkätossu ja J. K. Rowlingin Harry Potter -sarja.

Jossakin määrin nuortenkirja supistui alalajina 1970-luvun puolivälistä eteenpäin ja nuoret siirtyvät lastenkirjoista aikuisten viihdekirjoihin, sota-, jännitys- ja romantiikkateemoihin. Nuorten kirjallisuudeksi tuli kansallinen sarjakuva sekä kauhukirjallisuus. Tieteiskirjallisuus teki – muun muassa Jules Vernen 1800-luvun lopun tarinoiden kiinnostuksen hiipumisen jälkeen – paluun 1980-luvun lopulla eri maiden kansallisten tieteiskirjoittajien saatua myönteisiä kustannuspäätöksiä kustantamoilta. Japanilaiset sarjakuvat tulivat suosituksi 2000-luvun alussa ja nuortenkirjallisuus koki uuden nousun.lähde?

Historiaa

1940-luvulla markkinoinnin helppous sai kaupallisen edun voittamaan kirjallisen laadun. Koti- ja ulkomaisia pinnallisia nuorisokirjoja tehtiin paljon sarjatuotantona ja nuorisokirjallisuuden katsottiin rihkamatuotannon takia joutuneen 1940-luvun puolivälissä lamaan.[1] Nuorisokirjallisuuden ja kirjailijoiden etua ja laatua valvomaan perustettiin 1946 Nuorten Kirja ry, jonka toimintaa jatkaa nykyisin Suomen Nuorisokirjailijat ry.lähde?

1960-luvulla yhteiskunnallinen perusvaade koski kaikkia kirjoja ja realistiset nuortenkirjat saivat uusia ilmeitä.[2] Yhteiskunnallisviritteistä ja arkirealistista nuorisokirjallisuutta kirjoittivat esimerkiksi Eve Garnett, Eleanor Estes ja Mary Stoltz.[2]
