Nanto (jap. 南砺市, Nanto-shi) on Japanin kaupunki Honshūn saarella Chūbun tai Hokurikun alueella Toyaman prefektuurissa. Se sijaitsee sisämaassa prefektuurin lounaisosassa. Kaupungin alue ulottuu Oyabe- ja Shōjokien tasangolta korkealle Japanin Alpeille ja rajautuu Gifun ja Ishikawan prefektuureihin. Huomattavimpia vuorenhuippuja ovat esimerkiksi Oizurugatake, Ningyōvuori ja Kongōdōvuori.[1][3][4] Nantossa on 49 567 asukasta (marraskuussa 2020)[2] ja sen pinta-ala on 668,64 neliökilometriä.[1]

Nanto on kaupunkina suhteellisen nuori, sillä se perustettiin vuonna 2004 liittämällä yhteen kahdeksan kuntaa: Fukumitsun, Fukunon, Inamin ja Jōhanan maaseutukaupungit sekä Inokuchin, Kami-Tairan, Tairan ja Togan kyläkunnat. Inami ja Jōhana kehittyivät historiallisesti buddhalaisten temppelien portineduskaupunkeina, Fukumitsu ja Fukuno markkinapaikkoina. Edo-kaudella seutu kuului Kagan daimiokuntaan ja siellä tuotettiin esimerkiksi silkkiä. Nykyisin kaupungissa on muun muassa alumiinin, rakennustarvikkeiden, pesäpallomailojen ja puukäsitöiden tuotantoa. Maaseutualueilla viljellään riisin lisäksi kakeja, taaroa ja koristekukkia.[1][3][4]

Kaupungin eteläosassa on vuoristoinen Gokayaman alue, joka tunnetaan gasshō-zukuri-tyylisistä, jyrkkäkattoisista rakennuksistaan. Siellä sijaitsevat Ainokuran ja Suganuman kylät on hyväksytty Unescon maailmanperintöluetteloon vuonna 1995 osana kohdetta ”Shirakawa-gōn ja Gokayaman historialliset kylät”. Jōhanan kaupunginosa tunnetaan Hikiyama-festivaalistaan, joka on otettu vuorostaan Unescon aineettoman kulttuuriperinnön luetteloon. Valtaosa kaupungin alueesta kuuluu Hakusanin kansallispuistoon ja muihin luonnonpuistoihin. Nantoa palvelee JR Nishi-Nihonin Jōhana-linja.[1][3][4]
