Lester Brown

Lester R. Brown (s. 1934) on yhdysvaltalainen ympäristöasiantuntija. Hän johtaa perustamaansa Earth Policy -instituuttia.

Vuonna 1974 hän perusti Washington D.C:ssä Yhdysvalloissa toimivan sitoutumattoman tutkimusorganisaation, Worldwatch-instituutin, joka toimii kestävän kehityksen ja sosiaalisen oikeudenmukaisuuden puolesta. Worldwatch-instituutti on julkaissut Maailman tila -raportteja vuodesta 1975 lähtien.

Brown ajaa kestävää kehitystä, jota hän on käsitellyt kymmenissä kirjoissaan. Hän on yksi laajalevikkisimmistä tietokirjailijoista, sillä hänen teoksiaan on käännetty yli 40 kielelle. The Washington Postin mukaan hän lukeutuu 50 vaikutusvaltaisimman ajattelijan joukkoon.

Brownin tuotannosta on suomennettu Elämän merkit. Maapallon ympäristötilastot (1993) sekä vuosittaiset Maailman tila – Worldwatch Institute raportit kehityksestä kohti kestävää yhteiskuntaa.
