Kokkolan kaupunginteatteri on Kokkolan Teatteritalo Vartiolinnassa toimiva ammattiteatteri.

Teatteri sai alkunsa vuonna 1905 Kokkolan Työväen Yhdistyksen näytelmäseurana. Vuonna 1920 näytelmäseura vaihtoi nimensä Kokkolan Työväen Näyttämöksi. Vuonna 1938 Kokkolaan perustettiin toinenkin suomenkielinen teatteri, Kokkolan Näyttämö. Teatterit yhdistettiin vuonna 1947 Kokkolan Yhteisteatteriksi, joka vaihtoi nimensä vuonna 1949 Keski-Pohjanmaan Maakuntateatteriksi. Vuonna 1961 perustettiin Kokkolan kaupunginteatteri.[1]

Arkkitehti Ole Gripenbergin suunnittelema kaunis, ”Pompejin punaiseksi” maalattu Vartiolinna edustaa 1920-luvun klassistista arkkitehtuuria puhtaimmillaankenen mukaan?. Kokkolan kaupunginteatterin kotina tunnetun rakennuksen on alun perin rakennuttanut Keski-Pohjanmaan Suojeluskuntajärjestö keskustalokseen. Talo valmistui ennätysajassa: peruskivi muurattiin 12.5.1927 ja kymmenvuotiaan Suomen itsenäisyyspäivää vietettiin juhlasalissa 6.12.1927.

Teatteritoimintaa on Vartiolinnassa ollut aina 1930-luvulta alkaen, jolloin talo toimi Kokkolan Näyttämön tyyssijana. Ensimmäinen kokoillan näytelmä ”Espanjan kärpänen” sai ensi-illan Vartiolinnan juhlasalissa tammikuussa 1932.

Teatterissa on kaksi näyttämöä; suuremmassa salissa eli päänäyttämöllä on 197 paikkaa ja pienellä näyttämöllä eli Katariinan kamarissa on 60 paikkaa.

Kokkolan kaupunginteatterin johtajana aloitti 1.7.2023 Jouni Leikkonen.
