"We'll Be Back" is about a soldier's bravery, personal sacrifice, and will to survive in the face of relentless violence and war.[5][6][7] The lyrics depict the soldier's determination to seek revenge and exact justice, portraying a brutal and unforgiving battlefield where the soldier shows no mercy to enemies. It delves into themes of aggression, power, and the harsh realities of combat, highlighting the soldier's unwavering resolve to continue fighting, no matter the cost. The song ultimately serves as a narrative of enduring strength and the relentless pursuit of victory in war.
Performances
It was the first song from the album to be played live.[8][9] It remained a part of the band's routine setlist for their 2022, 2023, and 2024 tours.
Music video
A music video was made for the song, chronicling the origins of the band's mascot, Vic Rattlehead.[10][11] The music video, the first of three music videos leading up to the release of the album, depicts close-quarters military gun battles.[12]
This is the first music video to feature James LoMenzo as a bassist since "Head Crusher" from the 2009 album Endgame. He had returned as Megadeth's bassist in 2021, initially as a touring replacement for David Ellefson, who had been fired in May of that year. LoMenzo was announced as the band's bassist in 2022.[citation needed]
