Admin Coaching & RfA nominators projectHi Useight -- I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I do conceive the new project as rather different from Admin Coaching in both rationale and function, though sharing the aim of increasing the number of successful RfA candidates. It goes without saying that you'd be most welcome if you were interested in joining. Also -- now that the RfA RfCs with meat to them have all failed, with the implication that increasing the supply of new admins needs to happen without changing the RfA process itself -- might it be a good time to consider reviving the Admin Coaching project? Re: RDDIn regards to this comment, all I can say is, somebody- specifically an admin, meaning he should unquestionably know better- says something ridiculous and offensive, I say something along the lines of, "If you use personal attacks again, I will think about blocking you," and you chide me? Aside from the fact that stopping a user from continuing a string of attacks would not be punitive, the fact that I used the word "consider"- and the fact that I've blocked someone exactly once since I earned the mop in September of 2007- should probably give away that I'm not going to willy-nilly block people without cause. I completely respect you, Useight, but that didn't require an official 'Crat comment. For the record, I have absolutely no history of interaction with the user in question. I couldn't tell you anything else he's ever done or any discussion in which we've both participated. Useight's Public SockUseight, please could you make an edit whilst logged into your main account to confirm that you remain in control of User:Useight's Public Sock? I am no doubt being a little paranoid, as that account has not done anything to really make me doubt it. However, the situation is somewhat unusual. You set up the account for use from public computers, presumably recognising a real possibility that it might be compromised and so should not have advanced permissions. And it doesn't. But your main account has not edited in nearly 18 months and, although the sock account doesn't have the same permission, others treat it as if it is you. I'm not sure what mischief might result if it has been compromised, but I'm becoming increasingly uneasy about the position. Please could you confirm that all is in order and put my mind at rest? WikiCup 2014 January newsletterThe 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible. Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat. As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully. Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects. The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed. Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now. In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename. Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier. There is an ongoing discussion about implementing some kind of standards for administrative and bureaucrat activity levels; and activity requirements for bureaucrats have been explored several times in the past. I've prepared a draft addition to Wikipedia:Bureaucrats that would require at least one bureaucratic action every five years to retain the bureaucrat permission. In the past, I've been hesitant of such proposals but I believe that if the bureaucrat group as a whole is seen to be actively engaged, the community may be more willing to grant additional tasks to the position. Please let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure if this actually applies to any of us, but if you have not acted as a bureaucrat in over five years, you might consider requesting removal of the permission or otherwise signalling that you intend to return to bureaucrat activity. –xenotalk 14:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

To assist with the implementation of this requirement, please see Wikipedia:Bureaucrat activity. Modeled after Wikipedia:Inactive administrators and similar to that process, the log page will be created on 1 September 2015. Bureaucrats who have not met the activity requirements as of that date will be notified by email (where possible) and on their talk page to advise of the pending removal. If the notified user does not return to bureaucrat activity and the permissions are removed, they will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFB. Removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon the affected user in any way. In the little box where you can click on the next or previous year there is a link to the team. This link takes you to a minor league baseball team page titled Detroit Panthers (PBL). I tried to change the link by using the one from the "Detroit Heralds/Tigers/Panthers/Wolverines" drop box under the "The Franchise" section, Detroit Panthers. This takes you to the Wikipedia page titled "Detroit (1920s NFL teams)" but it shows up on the "1926 NFL Detroit Panthers" page as Detroit Panthers with the brackets showing. I edited out the brackets, but then the whole line is displayed Detroit (1920s NFL teams)#Detroit Panthers|Detroit Panthers. I returned the page back the way it was.
