Thanks for your work on the Template:Infobox Town AU - I was sort of hoping someone would know better than me how to make it look nice and tidy, but within one day is fantastic. Fair point - just modified it on all pages that hadn't already been. Looks good, although the location ones should probably still be within the main one as they're part of the "snapshot" the infobox offers first-up visitors. Just my thoughts. That's cool - I was actually doing it for a completely different reason (I'm actually trying to move some stuff from the long-deprecated and now limping Perth template onto Australian Suburb for future bot conversion) and noticed there's literally under 20 using Australian Suburb, so it's a quick business changing those then migrating some of the Perth suburban ones across. (Some also use a yukky manual one, esp in NSW) Orderinchaos78(t|c)07:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-10-26T07:16:00.000Z","author":"Orderinchaos78","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Orderinchaos78-2006-10-26T07:16:00.000Z-Australian_Place","replies":["c-SauliH-2006-11-16T08:41:00.000Z-Orderinchaos78-2006-10-26T07:16:00.000Z"]}}-->
Yeah, some of them have a "bring your own wood" approach to infobox building. :S I will be just converting those to Australian Suburb anyway so they'll be in just one standard form for future conversion. Good point re Perth. I'll do any *new* ones I write for perth in Australian Suburb though to reduce the work for later as thanks to HiddenStructure being completely disabled, the optional colour bar thingies up the top are breaking it and I had to comment them out.
Doesn't look like anyone has bothered with your bot approval?!? Frustrating. Hi what I was referring to was in this edit you removed some fields. I realise you are doing it by hand, but the suggestion I have is that the info box has all fields present in an article even if many of them are not filled out at present. Thus am hoping to see all fields as per Template:Infobox Australian Place/Blank in articles but say at Littlehampton, South Australia or Captains Flat that isn't the case. I guess this is what a bot can do but by hand it is too tedious. Happy to help if I can but a bot seems to be the answer and hence I will wait and hope for its approval. I saw you were in the category "Users who understand ParserFunctions" and was wondering if you could take a look at this and let me know if there was a way to make the rows ignore each other. This is hard to explain, so I've put an example on my talk page. Notice when there is long text in one row, it effects the other rows, causing the text to take up more than one row. G'day TheJosh. I've just seen the JoshBot's version of the Town of Victoria Park info-box. There may be a problem lurking in the JoshBot with image sizing, 'cos it appears to not apply any. I noticed it 'cos I made the locator maps for the Perth municipalities, which were being shown as reduced or thumbnails in the old info-boxes. It's possibly my fault, 'cos I didn't care about anything except a not-too-big, not-too-small size in the originals. But anyway, if there are large images, then the info-box could become rather obese fairly quickly... I would suggest that the JoshBot impose a 300px default size so surprises aren't unpleasant :) Gordon | Talk, 13:25, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-11-28T13:25:00.000Z","author":"GordonE","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-GordonE-2006-11-28T13:25:00.000Z-Image_sizing","replies":["c-GordonE-2006-11-29T13:30:00.000Z-GordonE-2006-11-28T13:25:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Gordon"}}-->

Why can't Wikipedia have a programming language for templates? I can see the politics one I want to do getting very messy very quickly - the mockup (with no code whatsoever) is at User:Orderinchaos78/Australian Politics Box - ideally the process would be:
switch on entry from, say, "ALP" or "LIB" to the correct value ("Labor with the correct coloured box).
sort by percent in descending order
print according to one of two formats depending on what option is specified (one is the table, the other displays on one line so you can pile them easily)
The way it's looking one will still have to put them to the template in the correct order, and 5 separate switch operations will be necessary. Thought I'd mention it to you in case you can see something blindingly obvious that I'm missing here. :) Orderinchaos7813:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-12-12T13:40:00.000Z","author":"Orderinchaos78","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Orderinchaos78-2006-12-12T13:40:00.000Z-Whinge","replies":["c-Orderinchaos78-2006-12-13T12:09:00.000Z-Orderinchaos78-2006-12-12T13:40:00.000Z"]}}-->

Thanks for uploading Image:The LOST Wikia Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hello. I've come across your Template:TemplateObsolete, as well as Category:Obsolete templates and Category:Pages using obsolete templates. I've redirected Template:TemplateObsolete to Template:Tdeprecated, as that does the same job and is much more commonly used. It seems rather pointless to me to have multiple templates doing exactly the same job. If you disagree with this, please let me know why. Also, I would like to tag the categories for speedy deletion as unused. Do you have any problem with this? Thanks. I put the request on the page to see if anyone was interested in helping add the infobox our project has already developed. Our project is attempting to put the infobox film on all film articles and I wanted to see if any members of an infobox project where interested in helping to add them to our articles that don't have one. Our infobox is already modified as we want it, but we need users to help assist in the backlog. It is not really a formal request, just an offer to anyone who is interested in helping. If your project is solely for developing infoboxes and improving the box itself, my apologies. Let me know if you want me to clarify further. --Nehrams202003:56, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-02-08T03:56:00.000Z","author":"Nehrams2020","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Nehrams2020-2007-02-08T03:56:00.000Z-WP:Film_infoboxes","replies":[]}}-->
I enjoy your userbox list — I took some of them for my own!
I recently did some major editing on the Infobox U.S. County template, putting in the 50-state switch statement so that the US map with the state highlighted would automatically show up correctly. This got me to thinking that someone else somewhere may want to use a state-to-abbreviation switch statement, so maybe I should create a template that simply displays a state abbreviation when a state name is passed in. This seems like it could be "reusable code" that someone else may need at some point, but I don't see a precedent for such a thing. Do you feel like the proposed template is a good idea? Does this fall within any guidelines? Or have I lost you altogether? Let me know!
Thanks

(your response) Hey, I dont think you should create a state name->template thingo, because that will be nearly pointless. It be flexible it would take up more space than a switch statement. Better is to educated people on the use of the switch statement. --TheJosh 02:34, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
OK, not a problem. However, I'm just curious in general: are there any templates used as functions? I don't see any precedent for it, but it seems like it might be really necessary. My proposed template would have been nothing more than a switch showing the State Name based on the State Abreviation (or vice versa)... I haven't seen anything like this on Wikipedia but I have created a few for my internal wiki at work. Here's one I hadn't considered. Can you tell me if this is possible?
In a template, I have a variable named {person}. I want the following to happen:
if the user creates the page with {person} = Michael Jordan, just use {person}
if the user creates the page with {person} = Michael Jordan, render the page as {person}

A tag has been placed on Mount Rat, South Australia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.
If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. from wikipedia. the problem is that any template
that includes parser function syntax such as #if
is being rendered on the page as regular text.
It's as if the parser function syntax is not available in the wiki
do I need to install/import something?
Might you be able to help please?

What are you doing? (A) You put the speedy delete/patent nonsense template on the wrong page – the talk page. (B) The article does not remotely meet the criteria for patent nonsense. I've actually spent a good bit of time and effort trying to salvage something useful and informative on this article: ploughing through internet sources, translating material from the French article to the English one. Thank you for uploading Image:Mount Barker Google Maps Layers.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. My personal advice would be to wait a bit. Your template development work at WP:IAP is absolutely first-rate - we literally could not have done it without you - but from current and recent-past RfAs, in general they will expect to see a lot of evidence of admin work. Also you get some people who will oppose (IMO incorrectly) on "does not need the tools", and you need to think carefully what you would use deleting/undeleting, blocking/unblocking for and in what circumstances. I would suggest looking at 1234 past RfAs and seeing how the answers were constructed and what points came up. Other points - 5000 edits, preferably 1 FA, no canvassing (however adding your username to the Announcements section of AWNB is quite acceptable), probably better to wait for someone else (preferably an admin) to nominate you rather than self-nom. Josh, I think you should withdraw your nomination an editor with 1500 edits has only a 5% chance of being successful additionally your recent activity is very low with most of your edits occuring over a period of two months almost 4 months ago. Also one line answers to questions in the RFA nomination are considered to show a lack of knowledge of Wikipedia and its policies like this one, I suggest you have a look at past RFA that have failed to see what to expect in the coming days in the way of responses. Thanks for uploading Image:Mount Barker Google Maps Layers.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. I've been using your NewPagePatrol script for a while now. However, it has just broken in a minor (but annoying way): it is always in the disabled mode. Looking at the history log of the script page, I believe it was your last edit that did it (when you defaulted it to disabled). The problem, if I'm not mistaken, is that you didn't update the cookie-reading logic to match; it still checks to see if the cookie is 'no' and disables the script if it is. However, since it defaults to disabled, it should be checking if the cookie is 'yes' and enabling the script if it is. I think that the following block should be changed from

I greatly resent having words put into my mouth as you did here: [5].
I try to write with care on WP and I do not take kindly to having words put in my mouth no matter how insignificant the change you believe you have made. I did not raise the issue of having aboriginal place names in the template as a proposal to be voted on and I most certainly did not write "support" to my own idea. To anyone who hadn't seen this page diff it would look like I was summarily proposing a straw-poll to bypass consensus discussion. You should know what this would look like very poor form to the community and you should CERTAINLY know better than to sign someone's name against something that they hadn't written themselves. Not only did you sign my name and add a "support" but you "created" votes for two other people (who had not "voted" but were simply discussing the issue at hand). If this were a journalistic or academic institution that would be considered fraud.
I have made this point at the discussion page and will now point this out to the two other people that you "voted" for. Please do not do this again. Thankyou. I saw that those variables are hard coded at the top of the scripts, and I think that's what's overwriting the custom settings. You should be able to do something like:
to make sure you're not overwriting the custom ones. That's how Twinkle and Friendly handle their custom settings. Hope that helps! Now that you've fixed the configuration variable problem, it appears that the enabled/disabed setting is overriding what's kept in the cookie. It would be nice to have NPP and RCP use the enable/disable variable setting only if the cookie isn't set. For instance, the way it works now, if you click the "disable this box" link and have npp_enabled set to true, the next page that you browse to NPP becomes enabled again. Do you think you could change this behavior so that the cookie overrides the variable for enable/disable? Thanks! Hi again,
Just wondering if you had noticed the new patrolled pages feature of the new pages list. Basically a user can mark a newly created page as patrolled once they have checked it; any that haven't been patrolled show up highlighted in yellow on the new pages list. Would it be possible to build some kind of support for this into your New Page Patroller script? If not for the highlighting, the URL for the links need updating - all unpatrolled pages have a 'rcid=(some number)' attribute added to the end. Hi TheJosh,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note about the banner on your userpage linking to needgod.com. Basically, I'm a little concerned that it might not be appropriate under WP:UP, particularly the section on inappropriate content, which references WP:SOAPBOX. I don't know if you're aware, but Prester John just had his userpage deleted for comments related to religion (the MfD discussion can be found here), and judging by some of the user comments in there it can be a touchy subject.
I don't find it offensive enough to remove myself or nominate for MfD (or even offensive at all--I mean, it basically told me I'm going to hell, but since I'm looking forward to partying with Jimi and John I'm actually all right with that), but I just wanted to give you a heads-up and suggest you either remove it or at least tone it down a little. Thanks! --jonny-mt(t)(c)I'm on editor review!04:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-12-06T04:51:00.000Z","author":"Jonny-mt","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jonny-mt-2007-12-06T04:51:00.000Z-The_banner_on_your_userpage","replies":["c-TheJosh-2007-12-06T10:08:00.000Z-Jonny-mt-2007-12-06T04:51:00.000Z"]}}-->
Thanks jonny-mt, I toned down the box - although I could not bring myself to remove it, I guess that's just the evangelist in me! I read the comments about Prester John's page, and it sounds a whole heap worse than a link to an evangelistic website. If I get any other complaints, I guess it will have to go. Thanks for your concern by the way. Also, while i'm here, do you want to talk about any of this stuff (aka the content of the website) at any time? --TheJosh (talk) 10:08, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-12-06T10:08:00.000Z","author":"TheJosh","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-TheJosh-2007-12-06T10:08:00.000Z-Jonny-mt-2007-12-06T04:51:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

I think it would be better if your new pages script (which is just addictive, by the way) could show the redirect page itself (&redirect=no) instead of the page it redirects to, that way we can actually patrol the new page not the old one. -- Mentifisto23:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-12-27T23:02:00.000Z","author":"Mentifisto","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Mentifisto-2007-12-27T23:02:00.000Z-Redirects_on_new_pages","replies":["c-Mentifisto-2008-01-02T03:17:00.000Z-Mentifisto-2007-12-27T23:02:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Menti"}}-->

The scripts don't seem to handle non-Latin characters well. The titles are displayed in the sidebar but when they're clicked on Wikipedia fails to find it - for example 'Sen no Sōeki' is rendered 'Sen no S%u014Deki'.
And if you need the info the scripts work in Opera as well, although Twinkle doesn't much so it's not that useful when patrolling new pages etc.
Also, can you make another script similar to the other two but displaying new users? Thanks for uploading Image:Cornerstone college logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi there TheJosh! As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation has recently approvedWikimedia Australia as an official chapter. In order to acknowledge this, and to appoint an interim committee, approve our statement of purpose and our rules, and appoint a Public Officer, Wikimedia Australia will be having a meeting at Computerbank in Melbourne. For those of us who are located in other cities, we shall be holding conference calls to the main meeting.
The meeting will be held at 2:30PM on Sunday, 20th April 2008, Adelaide time. In order for us to organise this meeting, we need your help! Please drop by at our meta subpage with suggestions as to venues, conference calling services, etc. It will be at 2:30 so we can meet up for lunch beforehand if anyone's open for that!

Just to let you know, I have forked your new page patroller to add a few features. I made the following changes:
Remove redirects from the list
Pages that haven't been patrolled yet are highlighted yellow as they are at Special:NewPages
For pages that haven't been patrolled there is a patrol link next to the name of the article
You can see the changes at User:Bradv/NewPagePatrol.js. Hello, TheJosh, I am a wikipedian at zh.wikipedia. Also, about NPP et al... can you, perchance, make the links accessible by popups? I'm not sure if that's possible since all other links in that column aren't accessible but I thought I'd ask (mostly I could use this for NUP so I'd be able to navigate to their contribs etc.). -- Mentisock10:58, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-12-23T10:58:00.000Z","author":"Mentisock","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Mentisock-2008-12-23T10:58:00.000Z-Bencmq-2008-12-09T12:42:00.000Z","replies":["c-TheJosh-2009-01-13T02:17:00.000Z-Mentisock-2008-12-23T10:58:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Menti"}}-->

Thanks for uploading Image:Bedford group logo.gif. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. TheJosh: I took the SVG image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vector_Video_Standards2.svg and made a few improvements (thicker diagonal lines, dotted uniform rectangle lines, moved arrows to separate SVG layer, arrows have large round tip so easier to see). Hi, Josh. Is there an update on this? If "oldest" doesn't work, could we get a delay of 15 minutes or so? We're getting a lot of complaints from NPPers who tag articles for deletion or clean up within seconds of the initial page creation (that is, frequently while the editor is trying to figure out how to format the sources). Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

hi TheJosh, is it ok to take a copy of your script and make local mods? i confess i already did it, but it occurred to me at the weekend that i should probably ask first! if its not ok, let me know and i'll undo my changes. on the other hand if you want the changes (dont go back 5 minutes, only list articles not patrolled, removed auto-disable) just let me know and i'll forward them to you (after i tidy them up a bit). cheers -- The Elves Of Dunsimore (talk) 08:18, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-06-13T08:18:00.000Z","author":"The Elves Of Dunsimore","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-The_Elves_Of_Dunsimore-2011-06-13T08:18:00.000Z-new_page_patrol_script","replies":[]}}-->

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Best wishes!

Your upload of File:Chooks Sleeping in a Tree.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, in case you're not already aware of it, a group of Adelaide Wikipedians has been meeting on a monthly basis since April, with the aim of improving the scope and quality of articles on South Australian topics. We meet at UniSA's City West campus, and our 23 July meeting will have a guest speaker from the National Trust of SA.
This coming Sunday, 6 July, we will be holding our first Edit-a-thon. This will be an opportunity for new editors to come and learn either basic or more advanced editing from very experienced wikipedians, so if you know anyone who would like to get some practice, please let them know - and beginners will be very welcome. You need to be very careful with biography pages, especially ones where the main point about the person is negative. Please don't post that kind of page without sources. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jamie Monks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or an organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi TheJosh,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. An article you recently created, Furiosa (2023 film), is not suitable as written to remain published. I have moved it to the draftspace for now. Per WP:NFF, Films that have not been confirmed by reliable sources to have commenced principal photography should not have their own articles, as budget issues, scripting issues and casting issues can interfere with a project well ahead of its intended filming date. The assumption should also not be made that because a film is likely to be a high-profile release it will be immune to setbacks—there is no "sure thing" production. Until the start of principal photography, information on the film might be included in articles about its subject material, if available. Sources must be used to confirm the start of principal photography after shooting has begun.Yeeno (talk) 🍁03:27, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-07-28T03:27:00.000Z","author":"Yeeno","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Yeeno-2021-07-28T03:27:00.000Z-Furiosa_(2023_film)_moved_to_draftspace","replies":[]}}-->
