Hey, User:Howicus

I know i know, as if i couldn't be anymore annoying about the adoption school. Apologies. However, you ask me to revert edits and find prime examples of vandalism and good faith but unhelpful edits. Problem is, that's impossible. Thousands upon thousands of editors and Wikipedians are always doing that by the second. I don't think i will be able to do that. Also, i completed the vandalism section but i don't see passed.

Hey User:Howicus. I actually do plan on it but as you said it's hard for that hands on stuff, just wondering what you had an idea to do, the wikipedia adventure highly interferes with this but i DO want to graduate this.

Well, I find vandalism by repeatedly refreshing Special:RecentChanges or the user contributions for new accounts page. I'm usually able to find some fairly quickly. You could try looking at different times of day; the number of anti-vandal editors around varies. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 15:17, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

User:Howicus Most of my activity i end up doing on Recent Changes is encouraging hundreds of IP's to make accounts and welcoming new users. I've made my 17th article recently and i gave and recieved my first Barnstar today! You asked if there was a section i wanted to skip, i was wondering if we could do that for Five Pillars, it and a whole lot of other things were covered in the Wikipedia Adventure.

In Christianity, homosexuality is a sin. That has been the standard for centuries, and the current confusion on this subject by some militant folks has not changed that. In both the Old Testament, and in the New Testament, the plain teachings are that it is a sin. I hope the "Sodom and Gomorrah" experience clearly explains God's view on the issue. THEREFORE, to so that one is a Christian (Christ-like, or a Christ follower), AND to advocate an sinful practice (which homosexuality is one of many) is illogical and untruthful. Hi Neuroranger. First, you've made a typo in the template at the top. It's {{subst:submit}} with a 't'. Second, you should probably format all of your sources as inline citations, like the "media obituaries" you have now. This page describes the formatting in detail. I edited an article that had this problem, so I fixed it with new details and sources. Today, an experienced editor restored to an older version that repeated an entire text from a corporate website and paste it as an article. The article has 6 sentences. Three sentences are original and other three are from the corporate website. Hi, Rdelano7. I'd suggest you remove the copied sentences, and say that they're a copyright violation in the edit summary. I don't think the editor who reverted you realized that you were removing copyrighted content. Any content you want to add, I'd suggest doing in a separate edit. Also, unfortunately one of your sources, [1], is actually just a re-print of a press release from YuppTV (which I can't directly link because it's on the blacklist; it's the first result here. It is clear that he was a notable scientist, and I have therefore copy-edited the article and published it. Hello, I noticed you changed the article name of Buffalo State College to just Buffalo State. Buffalo State College is what it's most known by and an official short name. The wiki article has been fixed, with consenus from another editor. . Take a look at the official name guidelines. ^[1][2]

Now having the page named just "Buffalo State" is rather confusing. Buffalo State is short for Buffalo State College but outside the article page you wouldn't know that it's referring to a college. Before I'd be willing to move it back I'd like to see discussion on the talk page, explaining why "Buffalo State" is not a good title, and getting consensus from more than two editors. Where was the consenus when you changed the article from its original name? Buffalo State College fits better, and makes sense when talking about the college elsewhere throughout Wikipedia. Buffalo State just sounds confusing when listed by itself say on a page about New York/Buffalo or anywhere else. Plus Buffalo State College (official short name) is a version of Buffalo State , but reminds the reader who are unfamiliar that it's a college. I'm not the only one to call it vandalism, I was just pointing out the fact that he kept editing the offical name and putting false information in the article, which he fixed so it's all good now , not trying to get into this whole wiki drama thing. So hopefully you'll change it back to Buffalo State College, and then get consenus first to change it to Buffalo State, but my votes still on Buffalo State College , as it always was. You can use the visual editor on smartphones and tablets.

Click the pencil icon to open the editor for a page. Inside that, use the gear menu in the upper right corner to "Switch to visual editing".

The editing button will remember which editing environment you used last time, and give you the same one next time. The desktop site will be switching to a system similar to this one in the coming months.

You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has fixed many bugs, added new features, and made some small design changes. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving support for languages like Japanese and Arabic, making it easier to edit on mobile devices, and providing rich-media tools for formulæ, charts, galleries and uploading.

Educational features: The first time you use the visual editor, it now draws your attention to the Link and ⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽ tools. When you click on the tools, it explains why you should use them. (T108620) Alongside this, the welcome message for new users has been simplified to make editing more welcoming. (T112354) More in-software educational features are planned.

Links:  It is now easier to understand when you are adding text to a link and when you are typing plain text next to it. (T74108, T91285) The editor now fully supports ISBN, PMID or RFC numbers. (T109498, T110347, T63558)  These "magic links" use a custom link editing tool.

Uploads:  Registered editors can now upload images and other media to Commons while editing. Click the new tab in the "Insert Images and media" tool. You will be guided through the process without having to leave your edit. At the end, the image will be inserted. This tool is limited to one file at a time, owned by the user, and licensed under Commons's standard license. For more complex situations, the tool links to more advanced upload tools. You can also drag the image into the editor. This will be available in the wikitext editor later.

Mobile:  Previously, the visual editor was available on the mobile Wikipedia site only on tablets. Now, editors can use the visual editor on any size of device. (T85630)  Edit conflicts were previously broken on the mobile website. Edit conflicts can now be resolved in both wikitext and visual editors. (T111894) Sometimes templates and similar items could not be deleted on the mobile website. Selecting them caused the on-screen keyboard to hide with some browsers. Now there is a new "Delete" button, so that these things can be removed if the keyboard hides. (T62110) You can also edit table cells in mobile now.

Rich editing tools:  You can now add and edit sheet music in the visual editor. (T112925)  There are separate tabs for advanced options, such as MIDI and Ogg audio files. (T114227 and T113354)  When editing formulæ and other blocks, errors are shown as you edit. It is also possible to edit some types of graphs; adding new ones, and support for new types, will be coming.

On the English Wikipedia, the visual editor is now automatically available to anyone who creates an account. The preference switch was moved to the normal location, under Special:Preferences.

You will soon be able to switch from the wikitext to the visual editor after you start editing. (T49779) Previously, you could only switch from the visual editor to the wikitext editor. Bi-directional switching will make possible a single edit tab. (T102398) This project will combine the "Edit" and "Edit source" tabs into a single "Edit" tab, similar to the system already used on the mobile website. The "Edit" tab will open whichever editing environment you used last time.

I think you didn't mean to revert what you did, Roscomoner. The paragraph you re-added was this, an unsourced paragraph about a guy named "John Carty". You recently changed something on the Salute page and I just wanted to let you know that you are incorrect (not trying to sound rude sorry if it sounds rude)it is the right hand that the U.S. military salutes with. Normally, I'mNotThatSmartOfAPerson, what you say is true. But that specific sentence was stating the exception to the rule. Thanks for answering my question on my talk page. But I don't think that the "mobile search summary" is coming from the article. For example, enter "gunpowder" in the mobile search page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page#/search, and you will see "Gunpowder Plot" as one of the hits, with only the word "event" as the summary:

Hi Fabdesign. Are you wanting to make the image larger? I actually uploaded it small on purpose; as it's a non-free logo, it must meet Wikipedia's Non-free content criteria. Dear Howicus,

I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm looking to be adopted by you or someone like you. I would like to know if you have any suggestions as to how I can get more out of Wikipedia and how I can identify which pages are most in need of editing? I also wonder if you have any insight into where new editors (see, I don't even now if that is the correct term or if I just say "user"?) go wrong in editing pages. I am a bit nervous about doing something wrong so I have just being doing small edits so far.

I guess in short I am looking to avoid any pitfalls that might detract from the validity of Wikipedia. I also want to contribute a positive, trustworthy presence to the community.

Hi Lululemonlove, welcome to Wikipedia! Normally I'd be happy to adopt you, but I'll be traveling soon, and as a result I'll be pretty busy. If you want to find an adopter quickly, I'd suggest trying the list here. To answer a couple of your questions, though, the Community portal has lists of articles that need editing with links to more. Also, "editor" is a perfectly good term, and it's what most people use. Finally, don't be too worried about getting into trouble. In general, be bold and edit. Hi! I see you've prodded a few of these fantasies. Unfortunately there's really a mass of clean-up work to be done there; I feel it should be co-ordinated in some way, but we don't seem to have a mechanism for that. On those three articles: both Francesco Natoli and the Orioles family definitely existed (I can supply sources if you like), they just didn't do all the stuff or have all the names ascribed to them. I don't believe either come close to satisfying our notability requirements. I did wonder, though, about the Battle of the Three Mountains; it obviously was not a major engagement (more Smithson puffery), but it definitely seems to have taken place, and to have a certain significance because it was the first victory after Caporetto; I found mentions in several sources. A new, simpler system for editing will offer a single Edit button. Once the page has opened, you can switch back and forth between visual and wikitext editing.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has fixed many bugs and expanded the mathematics formula tool. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving support for languages such as Japanese and Arabic, and providing rich-media tools for formulæ, charts, galleries and uploading.

The LaTeX mathematics formula editor has been significantly expanded. (T118616) You can see the formula as you change the LaTeX code. You can click buttons to insert the correct LaTeX code for many symbols.

Hi, Neuroguy2. I removed that particular "In Popular Culture" section because it consisted of one Bug Bunny parody and three cases where an ad for the soda is seen in the background of a movie. No, I was just curious as to why it was removed. You are much more experienced at editing Wikipedia pages than I am. I now understand, and thank you for the reference you provided. I've just seen other entries for such things, so I had added a couple of my own and wondered if that had been a no-no since it was removed. Thought it'd be interesting for people to have a reference to a well-known product of the time and see how it was included in films of the era to add realism to the sets - instead of "fake" ads. I was just going to do the same for huge posters advertising British products (most still used today) in the film Man_Hunt_(1941_film) when I noticed my previous contributions had been removed. Hello Howicus. I have added several new sources as the subject of this article is having another TV show play here in NZ. See [2] and [3]. When this show has played in NZ this Sunday I will also add this as a source. I don't understand how this article can't be notable now? The sources have been added to the page for almost 2 years now. I also found an article on the Daily Mirror, but I know that this is not regarded a reliable source. See [4]

you edited the section on prisoner release at Elmira. My fathers great grandfather was a prisoner there and when they closed, they did not give every prisoner a train ticket as is stated in that section. They just released many of them with nothing. They were forced to walk home, despite the fact that many were terribly ill and malnourished. He made it as far as Virginia where he succumbed on the side of the road. I just think that the section shouldn't be wrapped up in a nice bow. Were you able to find a preference setting that will work for your own editing? Did you see the large preferences dialog box when you started editing an article there?
• Can you read and type in Korean, Arabic, Japanese, Indic, or Han scripts? Language engineer David Chan needs help from people who often type in these languages.
