Adoption SchoolHey User:Howicus, me again sorry to bother you. The Five Pillars i already covered in The Wikipedia Adventure, also, i see adoptees all the time with Userboxes saying for example: "This user has been adopted by (name). I tried to find one but i couldn't. Do you know where i could find one? Also, Thank you for adopting me! I Appreciate it. I appreciate any help you can provide for the questions provided, thanks. Your friendly neighborhood navy freak, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
UserboxHey,User:Howicus, thanks for such a quick response! I tried to do the userbox and put it on my page....but then it said I adopted YOU! XD are there any userboxes that say YOU adopted ME? lol I saw a userbox like it but i couldn't find the code for it when i clicked edit, do you have the code? Also, do i call you Howicus, or what? Another thing, do you respond to the Adoption School responses for the first task i had to do? because it confused me at first when it said in the area below, so i just clicked edit and tagged you in a response, hopefully that's how to do it haha. Thanks! --Luis Santos24 (talk) 23:43, 27 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
Adoption SchoolHey there Mister Myagi! XD just kidding, i'm here to let you know i am finished with the Politeness questions User:Howicus, however, about the vandalism one, mostly by the time i get to vandalism, or most of the time possible vandalialsm, another editor has already gotten to it, so there is usually nothing i can do,so what now? :/ Your Jedi Youngling, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 10:35, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
Hey User:Howicus, Yes i actually would very much like to do vandal-fighting. Also,i already have installed twitch as of yesterday, but as i said earlier, by the time i get there, the job has already been done, and the damage reverted, so even though i have great interest, sometimes it feels pointless due to the gift and curse of Wikipedia's fast-acting counter-vandalism team. Also, besides the one with jaden smith it's a pretty good movie, i reccomend it. Thanks, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 20:02, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-)
Anti-Vandalism,familiarity with mentor, rollback rights, adoption schoolHey there User:Howicus, I think it would be cool to download that, but i need rollback rights, which i don't have haha. Also, calling you by your username,in my personal opinion, is a little too formal,as an adoptee, and due to my learning habits, i learn alot better when i actually get to know my mentor, take for example, my IT Boss at my school, he's the main reason i began to pursue programming and computing, he's like a second dad to me. So is there any alternative name i can call you?(Not demanding anything, or asking for first name basis right off the bat,i don't wanna make you feel weird and intrude your privacy, however my username is my actual name) Or, i can just call you Howicus as your username states? Also, is now a good time to request rollback rights? And if not, when? I have a very short attention/focus span, so the traditional methods such as in the adoption school might not be the best learning path, TWA was easy for me because it had a walkthrough approach, hell i was done in less then 45 minutes! Don't get me wrong, you are surely a great and friendly mentor to me, and your teaching methods are quite sound nonetheless. However, i sometimes find it easier to do answers to questions with the presented scenarios in the interaction and the consensus segments. But it feels as if i'm brushing up on all the segments of the Wikipedia Adventure. Not that i want to quit adoption school, because i don't. I'm just......confused even though i'm educated on the subjects, like a confusion of knowledge, hell describing it is confusing within itself! haha. By now i forgot the point of what i'm typing, so imma just go now ha. Your Confused Youngling, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 23:14, 28 May 2015 (UTC) :-) (P.S: I don't mean to complicate things for the adoption majigger, don't hesitate to chew me out if i'm being annoying. i'm from a military family, i can take it,don't worry)
Rollback rightsAlright, if not now, when should i ask? when i finish adoption school? Your homie,(Your youngling) --Luis Santos24 (talk) 10:04, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

However, it seems to have been attacked by sock or meatpuppets (hence why I've semi-protected it to keep the unsourced content down) and I fear if it goes to AfD, they'll take over that as well. So I thought I'd add a few sources and leave it be. I don't mind the article going to AfD but I've got a sinking feeling there will be drama, the article will be deleted, and created a few times (and deleted via G4) before being salted. VisualEditor News #3—2015![]() When you click on a link to an article, you now see more information:
![]()
![]()
The user guide has more information about how to use VisualEditor. Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has created new interfaces for the link and citation tools, as well as fixing many bugs and changing some elements of the design. Some of these bugs affected users of VisualEditor on mobile devices. Status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. The worklist for April through June is available in Phabricator. A test of VisualEditor's effect on new editors at the English Wikipedia has just completed the first phase. During this test, half of newly registered editors had VisualEditor automatically enabled, and half did not. The main goal of the study is to learn which group was more likely to save an edit and to make productive, unreverted edits. Initial results will be posted at Meta later this month. Recent improvementsAuto-fill features for citations are available at a few Wikipedias through the citoid service. Citoid takes a URL or DOI for a reliable source, and returns a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. If Citoid is enabled on your wiki, then the design of the citation workflow changed during May. All citations are now created inside a single tool. Inside that tool, choose the tab you want (⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-auto⧽, ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-manual⧽, or ⧼citoid-citeFromIDDialog-mode-reuse⧽). The cite button is now labeled with the word "⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽" rather than a book icon, and the autofill citation dialog now has a more meaningful label, "⧼Citoid-citeFromIDDialog-lookup-button⧽", for the submit button. The link tool has been redesigned based on feedback from Wikipedia editors and user testing. It now has two separate sections: one for links to articles and one for external links. When you select a link, its pop-up context menu shows the name of the linked page, a thumbnail image from the linked page, Wikidata's description, and/or appropriate icons for disambiguation pages, redirect pages and empty pages. Search results have been reduced to the first five pages. Several bugs were fixed, including a dark highlight that appeared over the first match in the link inspector (T98085). The special character inserter in VisualEditor now uses the same special character list as the wikitext editor. Admins at each wiki can also create a custom section for frequently used characters at the top of the list. Please read the instructions for customizing the list at mediawiki.org. Also, there is now a tooltip to describing each character in the special character inserter (T70425). Several improvements have been made to templates. When you search for a template to insert, the list of results now contains descriptions of the templates. The parameter list inside the template dialog now remains open after inserting a parameter from the list, so that users don’t need to click on "⧼visualeditor-dialog-transclusion-add-param⧽" each time they want to add another parameter (T95696). The team added a new property for TemplateData, "Example", for template parameters. This optional, translatable property will show up when there is text describing how to use that parameter (T53049). The design of the main toolbar and several other elements have changed slightly, to be consistent with the MediaWiki theme. In the Vector skin, individual items in the menu are separated visually by pale gray bars. Buttons and menus on the toolbar can now contain both an icon and a text label, rather than just one or the other. This new design feature is being used for the cite button on wikis where the Citoid service is enabled. The team has released a long-desired improvement to the handling of non-existent images. If a non-existent image is linked in an article, then it is now visible in VisualEditor and can be selected, edited, replaced, or removed. Let's work together

A biography of a person whether living or dead should be accuracy. Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner. While any entry to Bruce Jenner in the future will be a redirect to Caitlyn Jenner, which is fine, but this is not the history. Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner from 1991 till 2014. She was not married to Caitlyn Jenner. Caitlyn's identity was established in Vanity Fair article and via Twitter, June 1st. While Caitlyn's change is mentioned subsequently in the wiki entry and adequately, it is incorrect to include in the History or at the very least, superfluous. I am trying to provide an accurate history of Kris Jenner and her history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toga25 (talk • contribs) 18:49, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Howicus Thanks for responding so quickly. I disagree. There is already a link and mention of Caitlyn's Name in Kris Jenner's Sidebar: which links to Jenner's page : Bruce Jenner (now known as Caitlyn Jenner) (m. 1991–2015). There is also further mention of Caitlyn further in the article: In April 1991, one month after her divorce from Kardashian, Jenner married her second husband, former Olympian Bruce Jenner, who later renamed herself Caitlyn. This is an article about Kris Jenner and during her marriage, she was married to Bruce Jenner. It is established that Bruce Jenner later renames herself to Caitlyn in the sidebar and further on in the entry. During her marriage, Kris Jenner was married to Bruce Jenner, which is a small clarification but worth noting? Toga25 (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
List of saintsHi, I am a new editor. I was going through the list of saints when I realized the info on St. Olga (whom I am named after) is incorrect. As a starter, I tried to update the date of her canonization but it was rejected by you. I am not sure what I did wrong, but when I went back to check things out, I realized the link was to Olga the Grand Duchess of Russia and not St. Olga the first Russian saint who lived in the 10th century, whose grand son Vladimir converted the Russian people to Orthodoxy. This entry needs to be totally corrected / updated, as it is misleading. Let me know how I can help. The StormsUser:Highadventurer96 has readded the book "The Storms" to the Everest (2015 film) page, and I'm not sure if I should remove it. I did once, before you did, and we had an exchange on my talk page. You're a far, far more experienced editor than I, so I'd rather defer to you in this case - personally, I feel that the whole page needs a rewrite, and only books used directly as source material should stay, but Highadventure96 does make the point that the events at Base Camp will be covered in the film. I'm also concerned that they seem to be a single-purpose account, and with a name like that (and an agenda of promoting a single book), I'm worried about COI. What do you think? NekoKatsun (talk) 00:06, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Preference to the StormsI was on Everest in 96 but I am neither the author of The Storms or do I have any connection. If you take the trouble to read it you will find it contains new information focussed on events within Rob Hall's expedition which is fundamental to an understanding of the film. Other than Into Thin Air the other books quoted in the page have very little relevance to the film. Grateful if you stop replacing the edit unless you know more than I do about events on Everestbin May 1996. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 08:50, 13 June 2015 (UTC) Howicus/NekoKatsun Just seen the your discussion about "single purpose account". Firstly yes I do have a particular interest in mountaineering, and I acknowledge that I do not spend time looking to edit content on other topics - but I will happily do so if I become aware of information which would be useful. Secondly I am not promoting the book (other than my firm belief that it adds to the background knowledge of those who have an interest - I personally don't care whether The Storms is a successful book or not) but I am identifying to those interested in the film that The Storms (which I hope you have read which would at least make this a more relevant debate) provides sound background information. In my humble opinion, together with Into Thin Air, it completes the story. It certainly describes what many of the characters in the film were doing at the time of the tragedy from a first hand perspective. Far more than any of the other books listed which don't cover events at Base Camp which is fundamental to the full understanding of the film. Other than completely disagreeing with your view that I am promoting someone else's book - all I can say to this, is that I am not - I am simply attempting to support source material which gives a greater understanding of the subject of the film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 09:27, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Howicus Thank you for your response. I totally agree with your view that I am only concerned with this one debate - mountaineering is my field of expertise and I don't currently have a view about any other issues - does this somehow penalise contributions to Wikepedia? I do think the full story of the background to the film is relevant (hence my stance on this topic) - I hope you will find the this old and relevant article in the Alpine Journal to be an appropriate reference to support my edit that Mike Trueman's factual background to the film is relevant - see 3rd to last paragraph. I reiterate that I have no personal interest in "The Storms" - which is in any case a successful publication in the UK and doesn't need my help. I am however uncomfortable with the "policing" of my edit. It seems to be based on some self accreditation to legislate edits irrespective of how much you know about the subject in question. Please do forgive me if I am wrong and you were on the mountain with me in 1996. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Highadventurer96 (talk • contribs) 18:02, 13 June 2015 (UTC) The Signpost: 10 June 2015

Disambiguation link notification for July 29Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vapotherm, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CDC. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject. It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:17, 29 July 2015 (UTC) The Signpost: 29 July 2015

The Signpost: 05 August 2015That particular artists would be omitted through oversight or happenstance is reasonable, but that one of the world's leading publishers of art books is completely unaware of their major omissions is startling.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team have been working on mobile phone support. They have fixed many bugs and improved language support. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving language support and functionality on mobile devices. WikimaniaThe team attended Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City. There they participated in the Hackathon and met with individuals and groups of users. They also made several presentations about VisualEditor and the future of editing. Following Wikimania, we announced winners for the VisualEditor 2015 Translathon. Our thanks and congratulations to users Halan-tul, Renessaince, जनक राज भट्ट (Janak Bhatta), Vahe Gharakhanyan, Warrakkk, and Eduardogobi. For interface messages (translated at translatewiki.net), we saw the initiative affecting 42 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 56.5% before the translathon, and 78.2% after (+21.7%). In particular, Sakha improved from 12.2% to 94.2%; Brazilian Portuguese went from 50.6% to 100%; Taraškievica went from 44.9% to 85.3%; Doteli went from 1.3% to 41.2%. Also, while 1.7% of the messages were outdated across all languages before the translathon, the percentage dropped to 0.8% afterwards (-0.9%). For documentation messages (on mediawiki.org), we saw the initiative affecting 24 languages. The average progress in translations across all languages was 26.6% before translathon, and 46.9% after (+20.3%). There were particularly notable achievements for three languages. Armenian improved from 1% to 99%; Swedish, from 21% to 99%, and Brazilian Portuguese, from 34% to 83%. Outdated translations across all languages were reduced from 8.4% before translathon to 4.8% afterwards (-3.6%). We published some graphs showing the effect of the event on the Translathon page. Recent improvementsAuto-fill features for citations can be enabled on each Wikipedia. The tool uses the citoid service to convert a URL or DOI into a pre-filled, pre-formatted bibliographic citation. You can see an animated GIF of the quick, simple process at mediawiki.org. So far, about a dozen Wikipedias have enabled the auto-citation tool. To enable it for your wiki, follow the instructions at mediawiki.org. Your wiki can customize the first section of the special character inserter in VisualEditor. Please follow the instructions at mediawiki.org to put the characters you want at the top. In other changes, if you need to fill in a CAPTCHA and get it wrong, then you can click to get a new one to complete. VisualEditor can now display and edit Vega-based graphs. If you use the Monobook skin, VisualEditor's appearance is now more consistent with other software. Future changesThe team will be changing the appearance of selected links inside VisualEditor. The purpose is to make it easy to see whether your cursor is inside or outside the link. When you select a link, the link label (the words shown on the page) will be enclosed in a faint box. If you place your cursor inside the box, then your changes to the link label will be part of the link. If you place your cursor outside the box, then it will not. This will make it easy to know when new characters will be added to the link and when they will not. On the English Wikipedia, 10% of newly created accounts are now offered both the visual and the wikitext editors. A recent controlled trial showed no significant difference in survival or productivity for new users in the short term. New users with access to VisualEditor were very slightly less likely to produce results that needed reverting. You can learn more about this by watching a video of the July 2015 Wikimedia Research Showcase. The proportion of new accounts with access to both editing environments will be gradually increased over time. Eventually all new users have the choice between the two editing environments. Let's work together
