Thanks Foxhound. They are useful, I will add what seems relevant. Anytime you see something you think might warrant adding, feel free to message me here if you don't want to do it yourself. I have all the NN articles piped through to my newsreader, but I don't read all the articles by any means. Too much to do! Are you back to WP now then? Antarctic-adventurer (talk)09:12, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If on an exercise, or on a tasking, within 2 weeks they can be on opposite sides of the world if required. Certainly I don't think it is our job to report on ever move, otherwise all the RN ship articles would end up being hugely long. But certainly I think information of note should be included. So far I think we are doing fine. Antarctic-adventurer (talk)16:27, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the sections about the landing craft are notable enough frankly, but the part about Bulwark becoming the flagship soon certainly is so I have added that. Thanks as always Antarctic-adventurer (talk)21:33, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Cibwins, and thanks for your message. If you look closely at the edit history of the article by clicking "compar selected revisions" you will see that actually it wasn't me who added that line. However I think it makes sense, but I have slightly reworded it to be clearer. Vessels of the RFTG could certainly withdraw from COUGAR 11, since that is just the name of the group this year only. COUGAR 11 is indeed still going on, which is stated in the last line which I did actually add. Best wishes Antarctic-adventurer (talk)05:46, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just providing the news articles on RN/British Armed Forces activities. Am more interested inediting other articles within my interests.Cibwins2885 (talk) 14:16, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply Cibwins. That's fine, just be aware that many of us at the ships project see the news reports by newsfeed, but people don't often visit ship talk pages so your additions may not get seen for a while. Cheers, Antarctic-adventurer (talk)14:19, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Updating a page
Hi,
Thank you for your message and offer to help. I manage a band called Smith Westerns. We're trying to add a photo to their profile as well as change the bio, band members, and genres.
Can you help?
Edit genres to Dream pop, classic rock, brit pop, glam rock
Change band members to Cullen Omori, Cameron Omori, and Max Kakacek
Change the bio to:
If, light years from now, people ever want a snapshot of youth and young manhood in 2011, they need look no further than Chicago trio Smith Westerns, for to listen to their music is to experience vicariously the reckless thrills and irrepressible energy of a new generation, distilled to its purest and most vital essence. Hell, even the title of their lustrous sophomore album “Dye it Blonde” manages to capture its touchstone signifiers in three easy words, almost as much a playfully potent and authoritative slogan as it is a glorious statement of intent.
Even more appropriately, the beginnings of Smith Westerns were fomented while the trio of Cullen (guitar, lead vocals) and Cameron Omori (bass) and Max Kakacek (guitar) were still in high school. “We were all going to school together, so we started playing together”, Cullen Omori says of their formative years in Kakacek’s basement. “It was very punk rock, very straightforward stuff; we didn’t really try that hard at the beginning. It was really raw, music-wise, stage-wise, everything, then we just started playing gigs around Chicago”. Around this time, they were introduced to the halcyon era of glam-rock by one of Omori’s parents’ old friends, opening their eyes to David Bowie, Marc Bolan, T-Rex. The resultant self-titled debut – released in 2009 – was a revelation, with the trio showing remarkable facility in assimilating influences belying their age group, while also hardwiring them to a stomp and swagger entirely their own.
The album release won them instant buzz (with Todd Killings of Hozac Records even picking it up and giving it a proper release) and staunch support from the influential likes of Pitchfork and NME, and, in short order, they hit the road (with the likes of Girls and Los Campesinos!), left college, and signed with Fat Possum Records. “In late 2009, midway through touring, that’s when we definitely felt like something was happening”, Omori admits. “It felt like all our hard work was finally paying off. The tour we wound up with Girls, we were playing big venues, it was really exciting”.
When it came to recording their next album however, the band – frustrated with the lo-fi tags that had been hastily and carelessly slapped on their debut (“I felt like we did the best we could with shitty equipment and no money, we weren’t deliberately trying to sound like that”) – were intent on pushing it to the next level as much as possible. “Fat Possum wanted us to record it super lo-fi but we knew we wanted something a lot bigger than the last album” Omori says. “They gave us this advance and we didn’t even use it to pay ourselves at all – it all went towards making this record”.
To that end, the band recruited producer Chris Coady, already feted for his work on some of the most canonised records of recent years, among them Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Fever to Tell”, TV On the Radio’s “Dear Science” and Beach House’s “Teen Dream”. It was a union that was borne, quite simply, out of mutual admiration. “We wanted to work with someone whose work we liked also, and Chris has made so many records we really loved, like the Cold Cave record (“Love Comes Close”). Once he came in everything was pretty quick. We recorded it in 20 days and mixed it in 10 days. We knew what we wanted, and we just went for it”.
What they wanted, to judge from the end result, was a lush, layered wall of sound, complete with back-up vocals, phasered guitars, rich synths, and an effortlessly universal, ageless, peerless feel. “It was definitely a conscious thing that we worked towards”, Omori agrees. “For a while everything was so bare bones, lo-fi, badly recorded, and we wanted something that sounded kind of timeless – like music in the 60’s. Really big choruses, really clean sounding. That was the kind of sound we were aiming for”. Indeed, some of the unabashedly anthemic choruses and full-bodied melodies seem designed expressly to be sung along to in arenas, lighters aloft, with some songs even vaguely recalling another well-known stadium act from this side of the pond. “Yeah, I actually listened to a lot of Oasis while we were making the record”, Omori confesses. “You can kind of hear it with songs like “Smile”, where we rip them off a little bit”.
Make no mistake; “Dye It Blonde” is an album destined to soundtrack hot, hazy summer days and a million house parties, driving along the open road with the top down or even rowdy nights in. When asked where the ideal place for Smith Westerns to play however, Omori plays it admirably cool. “We’d love to play at big arenas, eventually. But for now we’d just like to play in clubs to great crowds who know all the words to our songs. It’s starting to happen now, I think”. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uwmryan (talk • contribs) 21:32, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Uwmyan, thank you for your message and welcome to Wikipedia. I took at look at the page for the band Smith Westerns that you say you manage, and at some of your edits there and see that you ran into a little trouble and were warned by some other users. As you are new to Wikipedia, no doubt you are unfamiliar with many of the guidelines and established procedures here. I think you ran into a problem because you when you added your new material, you overwrote the existing text and removed all the references. That could be considered as vandalism. Also, the material that you are wanting to add (that you have copied here on my talkpage) is very promotional and reads like an opinion piece, or magazine interview. (See WP:NOTPROMOTION) Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and hence follows the style one would expect in one, and is not used for promotion or advertising. Secondly, when material is added to an article it needs to be referenced with a verifiable souce, (see Wikipedia:Verifiability), so I can add the band members names if they are different than shown currently in the article, but we will need a source. The Band's own website should be sufficient in this case for that information. As for a photo, can you provide me a link to a source? If it is in the public domain, or if you have a photo and are prepared to release it into the public domain, we can upload it to the commons. Otherwise I can help you to make some factual and relevant changes to the article, but they have to conform to the standards here at Wikipedia. Let me know if I can help you any further and I will do my best. Sincerely, Antarctic-adventurer(talk)08:34, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Ant-arc, I was happy to see your batch of articles in the NewArtBot's listings. I wanted to say three small things:
We do have an article sea slug now, (albeit currently very brief, needs expanding!), so you can make sea slug a link in any more new articles you create, rather than just slug.
Also, if you are comfortable using the spelling conventions of British English ( e.g. colourful) you should use the spelling "mollusc", which is the British way to spell the word. In the USA it's mollusk and colorful. I don't think it matters which spelling system people use, as long as the spelling is consistent within one article. Also I think that any species that is endemic to one small area that uses British English should be described using British English, out of politeness.
By the way, those long protrusions on the bodies of aeolid nudibranchs are not tentacles but cerata.
Thanks for your note Invertzoo, understood about the spelling. Although I am British, I have been living in an American English zone for over 8 years now so I tend to just mix and match spellings sometimes subconsciously! And thanks for the other points, I hope I can get around to making some new nudibranch articles again soon. Antarctic-adventurer(talk)14:40, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Adoption course
Hi Antarctic-adventurer. Just a quick note to let you know that I'm planning to archive your adoption course for the time being. Let me know when you're ready to take it. As I said before, there's no rush - it's just one of those things you can do if you're ever interested :) Otherwise, you know you can always call on me if you've got any questions. WormTT· (talk) 19:29, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure I'll be able to find time for you when you're ready, for now it's archived, and it's but a moment's work bringing it back when you're ready. Hope things calm down for you! WormTT· (talk) 12:54, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message and apologies for the belated reply, I was on a wikibreak. I am afraid I am not sure which edit you are referring to on the RFTG page, if it is still an issue perhaps you could let me have a link to the edit? Antarctic-adventurer(talk)05:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wave Ruler's Medical Team
Wave class RFAs do not routinely carry more than a single Medical Technician. On an APT(N) deployment they may also carry a GP from the RN medical branch, but I would suggest that without further details Navy News' "full medical team" is a bit of journalistic license and certainly doesn't apply to the whole class at all times.Anixtu (talk) 10:16, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anixu, thanks for your clarification. You are most certainly correct about Navy News using artistic licence, and you seem to have a good personal understanding of the Wave class, although I am unsure what to do in this case when regarding contradicting a source other than looking for another source with more detail on the matter. If you know of one, that would be a good place to start. Antarctic-adventurer(talk)05:17, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I am inviting members of some WikiProjects to take part in evaluating their projects in order to help the Wikimedia Foundation better understand such projects from the inside, to encourage reflection on best practices, and to compile a list of best practices as recommended by a number of projects. I am contacting you because you are listed as an active member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods. Having witnessed that project's work in the past in my volunteer capacity, I'd very much like to include it. I hope that you will have time and interest in participating. As much or as little as you would like to supply would be gratefully received. The assessment questions are posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/Self-assessment. I will myself steer clear of the page until after any discussion seems to have become dormant, at which point I will ask questions to make sure that I am developing a good overview of opinions. Thanks. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 13:06, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Antarctic-adventurer,
I hope you're well. My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller working on the 2011 fundraiser with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. In past years, we've relied on Jimbo to carry the bulk of the fundraising weight and he's done very well helping us hit our yearly funding targets. This year, however, we're broadening the scope and reach of the fundraiser by incorporating more voices and different people on the funding banners and appeals that will start running full-time on November 7th. We're testing new messages and finding some really great results with editors and staff members of the Foundation. You can see the current progress of the tests here. I'm curious if you would want to participate in an interview with me as part of this process? The interviews usually last 60 minutes and involve a number of questions about your personal editing experiences, as well as general questions about Wikipedia and its impact in the world. In case you were curious, Invertzoo spoke highly of working with you and recommended I write this inquiry. Please let me know your thoughts by emailing mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks! Hello to you too AntarcticAdventurer! Thanks for dropping by. Actually I had just gone to the kitchen to make myself a big mug of sage tea, and when I came back and found your notes! So we really did have tea together, us and that sweet little bunny too. I am glad you enjoyed talking to Matthew at WMF last year, he's nice.
I don't actually know how much money my banner brought in comparatively during the overall time of fundraising, I only know it did really well during the testing period. (Perhaps WMF doesn't want to tell me how much I pulled in overall in case I start demanding a percentage! ha ha) But either way it's fun to know I did better than Jimbo at something. Actually what I got a kick out of was that I asked my husband to shoot my portrait with a green background (some bushes in the plantings outside this building -- I'm the volunteer gardener) and WMF discovered that the green worked so well that they put everyone else's image against green (outdoor) backgrounds too! The green outdoor backgrounds do feel a lot more relaxing and happy I think.
I am trying to decide whether to attempt to go to Wikimania this year, as it is relatively nearby, in Washington, and I am in NYC. I just think that 3 days of continuous nothing but wikistuff and wikifolks might be a bit much, a bit tiring, even if I apply for a scholarship so don't have to pay out for travel and lodgings... Some of the WMF people that I have only emailed with would like to meet me in person, but still, I am really not sure I want to go. Anyway, nice talking to you, and all best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 14:24, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sage tea? Don't think I've ever tried that. Sounds good! I agree that 3 days solid of wiki might be a bit heavy, but you have been before to Wikimania. haven't you? I guess you don't need to attend every year anyway. I have yet to go to one personally. Would be nice to attend once though. Thanks for your kind reply, and see you around on some of our marine gastropod cousin pages! Antarctic-adventurer(talk)04:52, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I very much look forward to seeing you around, ArcAd. Since January we have a brand new bivalve project too, you know. Oh and I have never been to a Wikimania, which is the global conference, always there are some major speakers. I've only ever been to New York City chapter meetings, which are rather small actually. Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
Hello again Antarctic-adventurer, In answer to your question, WoRMS is the best option we have currently for all of the gastropod taxonomy. WoRMS is set up, maintained, and updated by some of the leading gastropod taxonomists world wide, and you can't get any better than that overall. How up-to-date their database is on nudibranchs in particular, I don't really know, but I think you should go ahead and use it anyway. (We have a bot that can flag any future changes in the nomenclature or taxonomy that WoRMS makes, and that is a very useful asset to us, project-wide). So yes, I would go ahead and add species articles to the various genera (plural of genus) that you want to work on, based on WoRMS. In each genus you work on, you might want to check our species list against what WoRMS gives to see if everything matches up well or whether we have some synonym articles floating around. Let me know if it starts to get too complicated. All good wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 15:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Invertzoo, that is a very thorough answer which covers everything I needed to know. WoRMS I shall use, and I'll take your suggestion and check that the species lists match up. Also thank you for pointing out it is 'genera' and not 'genuses'. Thiking about it, I knew that already but must have had a little moment there, ;). Thanks again for you help. Antarctic-adventurer(talk)15:57, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you liked them! I thought it was about time that we had at least a stub for every nudibranch so I have made a start on them. Before I was adding too much detail to each one, which while good in itself took a long time and at that rate it would have taken me a long time to get through them all. This way I can go back later and gradually add more to each one. Still there are ~3000 nudibranchs in total and I have no idea how many we have left to go without manually counting, although I have a rough idea. Antarctic-adventurer(talk)11:47, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ganeshbot for nudibranch families
Hi Antarctic-adventurer, I noticed that you are creating stubs for nudibranch families. I have a bot that is approved to create such stubs. Please let me know if it would be okay to let the bot create these stubs. I can get your help with checking a few articles to make sure they are good. — Ganeshk (talk)22:25, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great thanks! I appreciate your patience. Would your bot be able to automatically create stubs for all the remaining nudibranchs in one go if set? Also can it add sections that are yet to be filled like I have been doing so far? (See here for what I mean: Aldisa smaragdina). Antarctic-adventurer(talk)13:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Technically the bot can create all the stubs in one go, but it was approved with the condition that it should only create 100 stubs at a time. A Gastropod project member (in this case, you) will have to review the stubs and okay them before the bot can proceed to create the next 100. This continues until all the stubs are done.

Hello A-a, Thanks for your note! It would be really nice to see you in New York City in mid-July, assuming you are able to spare a bit of time while you are here. Email me and I will give you all my contact info, if you don't already have it. It is likely to be hot at that time of year, so bring your tropical clothes. (I go to the free outdoor pool at the end of my block every day in July and August to exercise and get cool.) I could maybe help you decide what you might like to see here, unless you want to do the traditional tourist things. As for "my" museum, AMNH I can get you all over that place for free, and possibly into any other museum too. Keep me posted. Invertzoo (talk) 22:09, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To explain what I said about "tropical", the average daily high in mid-July in NYC is 85º F (almost 30º C), and the average low at night is 72º F (about 22º C). Quite frequently the weather is 10 degrees F hotter than that, or 10 degrees cooler than that, but you get the general picture. Invertzoo (talk) 21:54, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you did some work on the TAWS article. I am concerned about the lack of reference to tow major TAWS failure in Poland, reference to which were removed by MilborneOne. In short, the section outlined how the system failed. The Wikipedia page gives no hint of the actual track record of the system, and the Polish references seemed to help fill that gap - though ALL failures are worth mentioning in regard to a major air safety system.
I would also add that footnote 3 is inappropriate [it does not support the statement attached. I am a scholar of Polish studies, not aviation. This Wikipedia article is likely to be accessed by people looking into how a major part of the Polish govt. were killed. This was one of the greatest air catastrophes in political history (and a subject of great debate & many conspiracy theories). Perhaps I and wrong about the post and MilborneOne is correct, but I would like to hear an outside voice. Thanks for whatever help you can give. Tanessi (talk) 06:51, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Tanessi. Thanks for your message. I can't remember if I made an edit to that article or not, if I did it was likely to have been minor, (grammar or formatting for example), and not content. I have no real knowledge of the disaster other than what is written in the article so I am not in a position to give comment unfortunately. I agree that it is an important event though. Good luck! March Madness 2017
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. User group for Military Historians
Greetings,
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Frozen Planet II
Pinging @Antarctic-adventurer
Hi, I've had a comprehensive Frozen Planet II page in review for weeks!
Sorry for my lack of knowledge on how this works, but won't that ultimately result in my edit counts declining, and a deleted page against my profile? I'm trying to build up my counts, but if this is how it all works, then I might as well throw in the towel now.
I still don't understand how a page with a single (secondary source) citation can get approval faster than a more comprehensive one!
@Merely another passerby: I think there may be some confusion here that I can clear up: Any (auto)confirmed user can create an article in mainspace directly. Creating in draftspace and submitting to AfC is optional, except for brand-new users and users with conflicts of interest. Since Antarctic-adventurer is autopatrolled, his creation was waved past new page patrol, but that's not really "approval"; you could have created the article in mainspace too.Now that he has created it, well, as he's said, you can merge your version into his. This will not cause your edit count to go down, and will not lead to any "deleted page against [your] profile". (Instead, when you're done merging, replace the draft's contents with #REDIRECT [[Frozen Planet II]]. No deleted edits, and the history will still be there.)Remember that we're all on the same team here! :) When two people go to create the same page, that's something to celebrate, a sign of a healthy community. Fortunately, since this is a wiki, any resulting problems are solved very quickly with the magic of copy and paste. And even though you won't be listed as the page creator, you'll still get full credit in the page history. Plus you can be the one to submit the article to Wikipedia:Did you know, if you're interested in it appearing on the Main Page. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe)05:28, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hello, i am very new to Wikipedia editing (not browsing though) and I have noticed your contributions on a lot of gastropods! i am a very big fan of Chromodorids and i came across the Wiki article for them when i first learned of them as is commonly done, unfortunately there was a lot of outdated information :( i soon learned of this and i have made some edits as far as i know (which i hope are good)... to the point is that since I have seen you have done many contributions and clearly know what you're doing more than me, i suppose this is kind of a request(??) to ask if you are still active and all if you can look it over and fix things to be more updated? i do not know if this is an unreasonable or strange request as i am very new to Wikipedia and i can have a hard time figuring out what things are considered socially acceptable and things which aren't so i offer my apologies in advance if im doing something wrong here, just thought to ask since i'd really like to see the Chromodorididae page in good form!!!Capymingo (talk) 01:52, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
