The entire first part can be removed. It is not necessary to attribute directly in the prose that this quote comes from The Unofficial Guide or to say the authors' names. It is rather abrupt and tosses the reader into the middle of things. For instance, Hideaki Anno is described as a director, but it is unclear what he is directing. This article seems to start with an assumption that readers would already be familiar with this franchise, and that is not always going to be the case.  Done I would be careful about using in-universe terminology without introducing them. For instance, the term "plugsuit" is brought up at the end of the article, and as someone who has never seen anything related to this franchise, I have no clue what this means.  Done I would be mindful of citation overkill, particularly in the "Cultural impact" section. I have listed this article for peer review because I have been discussing ways we can get this character's article to featured article status in Talk:Rei Ayanami#Proposals for formatting to WP:FAC standards. @Tintor2: and I discussed some ways we could approach formatting the article to featured article status. I know @TeenAngels1234: worked on this article and nominated it for good article status in Talk:Rei Ayanami/GA1, but I was wondering if anyone else who is familiar with WP:FAC guidelines other than me and Tintor2 are willing to provide input for working on getting it to FA status.

In the talk page, I proposed we could do the following.

• Move the Characterization and themes section to Conception section as a subsection.
• Replace or remove Valnet sources per WP:VALNET.
• Add OCLC numbers.
• Translate titles that are not in English into English. I proposed dividing the translation work with someone else, where I could focus on the Japanese and Chinese sources, and another person could work on the French and Italian sources. I am thinking about asking people in the French and Italian Wikipedias if they are willing to help.
• I reviewed the images, but I am apprehensive about the license status of File:Aonami-line-ayanami-2020-2-1.jpg. It is licensed as CC BY-SA 4.0, but the train has a picture of the character as she appears in Rebuild of Evangelion, and I am not sure if it is acceptable for a potential FAC.

If I initiate an FAC, I plan to get consent from TeenAngels1234.

Regarding Valnet, I agree: while I situationally use them usually for GA-status articles, maybe for FA we can remove them. I can help with translating Italian and French titles: I'm a native Italian speaker and while not an expert I'm pretty fluent in Spanish and French. My primary concern for this article is having it be understood by readers unfamiliar with Neon Genesis Evangelion. I know that this can be more challenging with a character who is from a very different type of world, as it is a lot to introduce and establish.

To prepare this article for a future WP:FAC, I am currently meticulously going through the article to revise and proofread it. I am also working on verifying citations to expand them, correct them, or replace them with higher-quality sources per WP:FACR. I see that there are citations for Evangelion Chronicle issues in the article that were probably put in the article years ago, but from what I understand, Sony Magazines published 30 issues.^[1] DeAgostini took over and republished the original 30 issues and published 10 additional issues in the regular series,^[2] but it also published nine volumes that it labeled SF1 to SF9.^[3] Given these facts, I have reason to believe Volumes 31–40 must have the publisher changed to DeAgostini, but there is no official statement that I know of that calls what would be issues 41–49 just 41–49 outside of DeAgostini's now-archived URLs. What would be issues 41–49 is probably SF1–SF9. Does anyone concur?

So, the first 30 are about the series as a whole, like a normal encyclopedia. 31-40 are about the Rebuild. And, yeah, 41-50 are Story Files (SF) about the series again: they discuss the anime again, but episode by episode in chronological order this time, like the Newtype Film Books. I have listed this article for peer review because TeenAngels1234 and I would like to get this to featured article status, and Boneless Pizza! suggested I start another peer review in User talk:Z. Patterson/Archive 4#Suletta before a WP:Featured article candidate. If this article passes an FAC, I would also like to use the featured article as a manuscript for a journal article in the WikiJournal of Humanities and get a version of this article (without the fair use images) into a Wikipedia:WikiJournal article nomination, because she has significant academic coverage about her characterization and impact. Consequently, I have been working on aligning Rei Ayanami's article to both the Wikipedia:Featured article criteria and the Wikiversity:WikiJournal User Group/Publishing#Criteria for inclusion. In this peer review, I would like to have multiple peer reviewers give me and TeenAngels1234 suggestions on how we can make this article meet both featured article criteria and the WikiJournal criteria for inclusion. Specifically, I would like viewpoints from the following.

• An FAC mentor, such as one listed at Wikipedia:Mentoring for FAC#Mentors. To date, I have not had a successful FAC, and to my knowledge, this will be TeenAngels1234's first FAC and my first joint FAC. So far, to my knowledge, TeenAngels1234 has done only GANs.
• A user experienced in submitting Wikipedia articles to WikiJournals through Wikipedia:WikiJournal article nominations#Nominations, unless the submitter is also an FAC mentor.
• A subject matter expert in anime in Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga.
• A general reviewer to make sure people who are not familiar with anime and manga can understand the article.
• Someone who participated in WP:GANs and FACs for anime-related articles, such as Naruto Uzumaki and Raichu, unless this person is any of the people listed above.

@FelipeFritschF and Tintor2: I am notifying you for awareness because you are among the top five contributors to Rei Ayanami's article. I am currently going through the Legacy subsection meticulously and have been using Jill Valentine's article as a guide for structure.

This is quite a big article. Maybe there is something about the size that might turn off FA reviewers. At least judging my experience with how the only FA I made were changed with help from another user expert with FA, it might be better to tone down the prose. The popularity section could be toned to at least one paragraphs and mention only the most notable parts. For example, one of the most recent article I wrote Caim (Drakengard) was turning out to be too big despite appearing in only two games so I tried creating subsections to long section. Another helpful note I received in the past year is that we need to rely less on first party sources and instead more accessible content. Some parts can also be considered wp:fancruft like "The original series does not specify Rei Ayanami's birth date. All data about Rei's past are unknown or erased; her age, 14 in 2015, is the only known fact" so I suggest only putting information that is only pivotal for the viewer or reader while sentences like "Also being Shinji's classmate, she begins to become more aware of her own identity and desires" might be more fitting for characterization and themes. I think I removed the unimportant information from the article for now. @TeenAngels1234: I have a question about the images in the Concept and design section. Is either fair use image in that section necessary for understanding the article? Although fair use images are not allowed in Wikiversity versions of Wikipedia articles and will be removed in Wikiversity, for featured article candidates in Wikipedia, reviewers might have questions about those images. I dunno. I uploaded them from ru.wikipedia, since the article mentions the mysterious Rei-Ayanami like Yui Ichijo character and the dark-eyed Rei. I think the brunette Rei-like Yui is OK, at least; you can delete the other. Maybe we cut to much from Legacy, anyway? @TeenAngels1234: I kept the image of concept art of Rei Ayanami in a plugsuit because it mentions "Yui Ichijo" in the corner of the image. I tagged the other image for deletion. I will try to think of something to restore in the Legacy subsection that I removed, but I want to be able to support it with peer-reviewed journal articles or academic books. This overhaul on Wikidata is done. On the Wikidata item, I confirmed there are no constraint violations, and I proposed it to be listed as a showcase item on Wikidata:Showcase items.
