Buchart Colbert is an American niche perfume house based in Tucson, Arizona, founded in 2024 by Sean Colbert and Sean Cavenaugh.[1]

The brand is known for its unisex fragrances inspired by music, literature, and art.

Each fragrance is designed as a narrative composition, reflecting personal and cultural references.

All fragrances are handcrafted by Sean Colbert, who has a background in classical music and engineering. Sean Cavenaugh, with a background in design and program management, shapes the brand’s visual and conceptual identity. Buchart Colbert is based in the United States.[1]

History

Buchart Colbert, an indie perfume brand in the United States.

In October 2024, Buchart Colbert launched at the Core Club in New York City, officially marking the brand’s debut.[2] The company was founded by Sean Colbert, a classically trained musician and perfumer, and Sean Cavenaugh, a designer and brand strategist.

The concept for the brand originated from the desire to merge musical structure with olfactory composition, crafting what the founders refer to as "musical memories."[3]

Fragrances

  • According to Fragrantica, Buchart Colbert introduced six perfumes in 2024, all composed by Sean Colbert:
    • L’Hantise (2024): A floral-amber scent featuring rosewood, muguet (lily of the valley), and patchouli.[4]
    • Knife Thrower (2024): A fresh fougère with citrus, ginger, and woody-musk elements.
    • Lutin Errant (2024): A fruity-woody fragrance combining plum, rum, mushroom, and amber. Robb Report included Lutin Errant in its feature on the best green fragrances, describing it as having “the dampness and darkness of a great chypre scent” while maintaining a surreal yet wearable quality.[5]
    • Mischa (2024): A warm composition with neroli, saffron, elemi, and moss.
    • Faisan d'Or (2024): A gourmand fragrance featuring caramelized sugar, orange, pink pepper, and smoke.
    • Le Bain de Lulu(2024): A floral-gourmand blend with cardamom, rose, plum, and oakmoss, inspired by the opera Lulu by Alban Berg.

Branding and Style

The brand’s visual and editorial identity is described as poetic and intellectually referential. Scent compositions are marketed as gender-neutral and are described using music and literature as primary frameworks.[6]
