Ayapata District is one of ten districts of the province Carabaya in Peru.[1]

Geography

The Kallawaya mountain range traverses the district. The highest peak of the district is Allin Qhapaq at 5,780 m (18,963 ft). Other mountains are listed below:[2]

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (82.61%) learnt to speak in childhood, 16.22% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]
