Ajoyani District is one of ten districts of the province Carabaya in Peru.[1]

Geography

The Kallawaya mountain range traverses the district. Some of the highest mountains of the district are listed below:[2]

  • Tankani
  • Taypi Tira
  • Uqi Kunka Urqu
  • Wampuni

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (81.53%) learnt to speak in childhood, 18.08% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[3]
