Background

Coach Eduardo Coudet was given a new contract ending Dec 2024

Internacional started 2024 by extending coach Eduardo Coudet's contract (as well as his coaching staff) for another year,[3] given the team's relative success under the Argentinian after reaching the Copa Libertadores semifinals and ending the Brasileirão Série A with a positive note. Moreover, fans were really excited by the prospect of battling for important titles once more after a frustrating year in 2023, emboldened by president Alessandro Barcelos' promises of building a stronger team this season.[4]

As the squad managed returned for the pre-season, the squad was greeted by the arrival of new signings such as defenders Robert Renan[5] and Alexandro Bernabei,[6] striker Lucas Alario,[7] wingers Wesley[8] and Hyoran[9] and goalkeeper Ivan Quaresma,[10] as well as the club exercising the buying option for defensive midfielder Rômulo.[11] These would be strengthened by the arrivals of veteran Fernando Reges,[12] midfielder Thiago Maia[13] and striker Rafael Santos Borré,[14] a transfer very celebrated by fans, later in the first months of the year.

Additionally, the club managed to move players like goalkeeper Keiller,[15] wingers David,[16] Jean Dias[17] and Pedro Henrique,[18] striker Luiz Adriano,[19] defender Nico Hernández,[20] among other first-team members that would not be getting further chances in 2024.
