Ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας του Λιβάνου είναι ο επικεφαλής του κράτους του Λιβάνου. Ο πρόεδρος εκλέγεται από τη Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων για θητεία έξι ετών. Ο πρόεδρος είναι πάντα Μαρωνίτης Χριστιανός και ηλικίας τουλάχιστον 21 ετών.[2] Από τις 31 Οκτωβρίου 2022 η θέση παραμένει κενή.

Αρμοδιότητες

Ο Πρόεδρος, όπως περιγράφεται στο Σύνταγμα, είναι αρχηγός των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων και των σωμάτων ασφαλείας, διορίζει και απολύει τον πρωθυπουργό και την κυβέρνηση, ενώ νομοθετεί πριν τα νομοσχέδια κατατεθούν στο Κοινοβούλιο προς ψήφιση. Επίσης, έχει το δικαίωμα του βέτο σε νομοσχέδια και μπορεί να διαλύσει το κοινοβούλιο. Επιπρόσθετα, μπορεί να εκδώσει "επείγοντες" νόμους με διάταγμα.[3]

Εκλογή Προέδρου

2022-2023

To 2022 χαρακτηρίστηκε επισκιάστηκε από την μη εκλογή προέδρου. Η θητεία του Μισέλ Αούν έληξε στις 31 Οκτωβρίου 2022. Η 11η απόπειρα εκλογής Προέδρου απέτυχε στις 19 Ιανουαρίου 2023. Ο Μισέλ Μοαβάντ έλαβε 34 ψήφους και 37 βουλευτές ψήφισαν λευκό.[4]

2014-16

Το 2014, το 2015 και το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του 2016 χαρακτηρίστηκαν από την αδυναμία εκλογής Προέδρου λόγω μη συμμετοχής μεγάλου αριθμού βουλευτών στην ψηφοφορία. Ο 46ος γύρος από τον Απρίλιο του 2014 έγινε στις 31 Οκτωβρίου 2016 και ο Μισέλ Αούν εξελέγη με 83 ψήφους επί συνόλου 127.[5]
