Νεοκλασικισμός

Ο Νεοκλασικισμός (από τα Ελληνικά νέος και κλασικός)[1] είναι το όνομα που δόθηκε σε δυτικά πολιτισμικά κινήματα των εικαστικών τεχνών, της λογοτεχνίας, του θεάτρου, της μουσικής και της αρχιτεκτονικής, τα οποία αντλούν έμπνευση από της κλασική τέχνη και τον πολιτισμό της αρχαίας Ελλάδας ή της αρχαίας Ρώμης. Το κύριο ρεύμα του νεοκλασικισμού συνέπεσε με τον 18ο αι. και επεκτάθηκε στις αρχές του 19ου αι. ως ανταγωνιστικό ιδίωμα του ρομαντισμού[2]. Σε ό,τι αφορά στην αρχιτεκτονική, το στιλ επιβίωσε έως τον 20ό αιώνα.
