Die Virslīga 1998 war die siebte Spielzeit der höchsten lettischen Fußball-Spielklasse der Herren, seit deren Neugründung im Jahr 1992. Sie wurde vom Lettischen Fußballverband ausgetragen. Die Spielzeit begann am 18. April 1998 und endete am 7. November 1998.

Skonto Riga wurde zum siebten Mal in Folge lettischer Meister.

Modus

Zwei Mannschaften (FK Lokomotīve Daugavpils und FK Universitāte Riga) hatten die Liga am Ende der letzten Saison aus finanziellen Gründen verlassen. Im Gegenzug war mit FK Ranto-Miks nur ein Verein aufgestiegen. Die acht Mannschaften spielten jeweils viermal gegeneinander und bestritten insgesamt 28 Saisonspiele. Der Tabellenletzte stieg ab. Zusätzlich wurde durch LU/Daugava Riga ein weiterer Platz in der Virslīga frei, da man sich entschied aus finanziellen Gründen in der folgenden Saison zweitklassig zu spielen.
