Romaleon ist eine Krabbengattung aus der Familie der Taschenkrebse (Cancridae) mit sieben Arten.[1] Sie kommen im Bereich des Schelfs und des Kontinentalhangs des gemäßigten Nordpazifiks, des tropischen Ostpazifiks und des gemäßigten Süden Afrikas in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 280 m vor. Eine Art, Romaleon setosum, spielt in der Krabbenfischerei im Süden Chiles eine größere kommerzielle Rolle.[2]
Merkmale
Romaleon wird bis zu 80 mm lang. Die Regionen des Carapax sind glatt und schlecht voneinander abgegrenzt. Der vordere Seitenrand trägt im vorderen Bereich durch Fissuren, im hinteren Bereich durch deutliche Spalten abgegrenzte Zähne. Der hintere Seitenrand ist im vorderen Drittel mit deutlichen Zähnen oder Höckern bewaffnet. Die Scheren (Chelae) der Adulten sind verlängert.[2]
