Pycnochromis hanui (bis 2021: Chromis hanui) ist ein Knochenfisch aus der Familie der Riffbarsche (Pomacentridae) und der Unterfamilie Chrominae.[1]

Verbreitung und Habitat

Pycnochromis hanui ist eine endemische Art in Hawaii.[2][3] Es lebt in der Nähe von Korallenriffen, sowohl auf der Binnenseite als auch auf der Meerseite in Tiefen zwischen 6 und 50 Metern.[2]

Merkmale

Das Erscheinungsbild ist typisch für die Gattung Pycnochromis. Die Färbung ist mehr oder weniger hellbraun, mit einem weißen Schwanzstiel, einer weißen Schwanzflosse und einem weißen hinteren Teil der Rücken- und Afterflosse. Die Art hat 12 Rückenflossenstacheln, davon 13 Weichstrahlen; 2 Afterflossenstacheln und 13–14 Afterflossenweichstrahlen. Am Ansatz der Brustflosse befindet sich ein schwarzer Fleck.[2][3] Er erreicht Längen bis 6 cm.[2]

Verhalten

Die Tiere laichen an Steinkorallen. Die Männchen bewachen die Eier und fächeln Frischwasser zu.[2]

Schutz

Die Art ist häufig.[3]
