Parathranites ist eine Gattung von Krabben innerhalb der Familie der Polybiidae mit acht Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln den Schelf und den Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 73 und 510 m im Indopazifik und in der gemäßigten Klimazone Australasiens.[2]
Merkmale
Der Carapax ist bis zu 40 mm lang und queroval bis etwa sechseckig. Der Übergang vom vorderen in den hinteren Seitenrand ist in Form eines nach oben gebogenen Dorns ausgeprägt. Der Merus der Scherenbeine ist wie bei Bathynectes am Ober- und Vorderrand mit einem Dorn bewehrt. Das zweite Schreitbein ist länger als das dritte. Das letzte Schreitbein ist am Ende angerundet. Das Telson ist bei Männchen halb so breit wie der sechste Somit des Pleons.[2]
