Das Erzbistum Lipa (lat.: Archidioecesis Lipensis) ist eine auf den Philippinen gelegene römisch-katholische Erzdiözese mit Sitz in Lipa City. Es umfasst die Provinz Batangas.

Geschichte

Wappen des Erzbistums Lipa

Papst Pius X. gründete das Bistum Lipa am 10. April 1910 aus Gebietsabtretungen des Bistums Cáceres und es wurde dem Erzbistum Manila als Suffraganbistum unterstellt.

Mit der Apostolischen Konstitution Qui summi Numinis wurde es am 20. Juni 1972 in den Rang eines Metropolitanerzbistums erhoben.

Angebliche Marienerscheinung

Im Karmel von Lipa soll 1948 die Muttergottes einer Novizin erschienen sein. 1951 untersagte das Erzbistum Lipa zunächst die Verehrung. 2015 erkannte Erzbischof Argüelles die Erscheinung als übernatürlich an. Die Anerkennung als Erscheinungsort wurde im Juni 2016 von der Kongregation für die Glaubenslehre wieder aufgehoben, die Erscheinung als nicht übernatürlich verworfen.[1]
