Clythrocerus ist eine Gattung der Krabben mit sechs Arten.[1] Sie kommen in der tieferen Gezeitenzone (subtidal) bis zum Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 0,5 und 1036 m im gemäßigten Nordatlantik und tropischen Westatlantik vor.[2]

Merkmale

Clythrocerus wird bis zu 7 mm lang. Der Carapax ist etwa rund und nahezu flach. Der Abstand zwischen den beiden äußeren Augenzähnen (Exorbitalzähne) beträgt etwa zwei Drittel der maximalen Carapaxbreite. Die Stirn ist vierlappig mit einer mittigen flachen Einziehung, die breiter als die beiden seitlichen Einziehungen ist. Die Antennulen sind kürzer als die halbe Carapaxbreite. Das zweite und dritte Antennenglied sind klappenförmig. Das Endostom überragt die Stirn und ist von oben sichtbar.[2]
