Calvactaea tumida ist eine Art der Rundkrabben und einziger Vertreter der Gattung Calvactaea.[1] Sie besiedelt die tiefe Gezeitenzone (subtidal) und den Schelf in Tiefen zwischen 10 und 106 Metern in der gemäßigten Klimazone des Nordwestpazifik, im zentralen Indopazifik und in der gemäßigten Klimazone Australiens. Sie ist eng mit Weichkorallen assoziiert.[2]
Merkmale
Der Carapax ist bis zu 20 mm lang und stark konvex. Die Oberfläche ist körnig oder glatt und mit einem Filz kurzer Borsten bedeckt. Der vordere Seitenrand ist gleichmäßig konvex. Die Mundhöhle ist quadratisch und breit. Das dritte Maxilliped ist rechteckig, sein Merus breiter als lang und der körperfern-seitliche Winkel quadratisch. Beide Meri sind durch einen Zwischenraum getrennt, in dem die Palpen liegen.[2]
