Bathycheles (von altgriechisch βαθύς bathýs, deutsch ‚tief‘) ist eine Gattung der Einsiedlerkrebse mit sechs Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln den Kontinentalhang und die Tiefsee in Tiefen zwischen 283 und 2217 m im tropischen Westatlantik sowie im zentralen und westlichen Indopazifik.[2]
Merkmale
Die Gattung hat die Merkmale der Pylochelidae. Die Arten sind bis zu 13 mm lang. Die hintere Portion des Telsons ist nicht in zwei Lappen untergliedert. Die Augenstiele sind weniger als halb so lang wie das Rückenschild. Die Cornea ist halbkugelig, reduziert und kaum pigmentiert. Die Scherenbeine bilden keinen Deckel (Operculum) zum Verschluss der Wohnhöhle. Die rückenseitige Innenfläche des Carpus trägt am Ende eine Ansammlung von Höckern.[2]
