Banareia ist eine Gattung der Rundkrabben mit 17 Arten.[1] Sie bewohnen die Gezeitenzone, den Schelf und den Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 250 Metern im tropischen Westatlantik, in der gemäßigten Klimazone des Nordwestpazifik, im Indopazifik und in der gemäßigten Klimazone Australiens.[2]
Merkmale
Der Carapax ist bis zu 35 mm lang und schwach konvex. Die Oberfläche ist körnig und mit einem Filz aus Borsten besetzt. Der vordere Seitenrand ist in vier Lappen gegliedert und gekörnt. Die Mundhöhle ist quadratisch und breit. Das dritte Maxilliped ist rechteckig, sein Merus breiter als lang und der körperfern-seitliche Winkel quadratisch. Beide Meri sind durch einen Zwischenraum getrennt, in dem die Palpen liegen.[2]
