Žarko Varajić (ćirilica: Жарко Варајић; 26. decembar 1951. Nikšić, SR Crna Gora, FNR Jugoslavija − 23. juni 2019. Beograd, Srbija) bio je košarkaš koji je igrao za reprezentaciju SFR Jugoslavije, uključujući i učešće na Ljetnoj olimpijadi 1976, kada je osvojio srebrnu medalju.[1][2] Nastupao je i za sarajevsku Bosnu sa kojom je između ostalog postao i prvak Evrope u sezoni 1978/79. sa postigutih 45 koševa.

Igračka karijera

Odrastajući u rodnom Nikšiću, Varajić je u početku igrao nogomet u omladinskom klubu FK Sutjeska prije nego što se odlučio za košarku. Prve košarkaške nastupe ostvario je u omladinskim ekipama istog sportskog društva, KK Sutjeska.

Profesionalna karijera

1970. godine Žarko Varajić se pridružio KK Bosni, klubu koji se u to doba takmičio na drugoj saveznoj jugoslovenskoj ligi.[3] Sa mladim igračima kao što su Ante Đogić, Rođeni Krvavac i centrom Zdravkom Čečurom u svom rosteru, KK Bosna je nastojala izboriti plasman u najelitniji rang državne košarke.

Tokom ljeta 1971. godine, trenersku poziciju u klubu preuzeo je Bogdan Tanjević, koji se upravo povukao iz igračke karijere. Mladi tim koji je predvodio mladi trener i novi igrač KK Partizana Svetislav Pešić - jedini igrač koji je do tada nastupao u najelitnijem rangu državne košarke,[4] uspio je da izbori promociju u Prvu ligu Jugoslavije.

1979. u finalu Kupa evropskih prvaka protiv italijanskog Varesea Varajić je postigao 45 poena i na najbolji način dao doprinos osvajanju evropske titule KK Bosne. Tih 45 poena Varajića i dalje je rekord po broju poena u finalu.
