L'Arandanera[1] (Vaccinium myrtillus) ye una planta de la familia de les Ericácees que da unes pequeñes bayes comestibles nomaos arándanos.

  • Pequeñu arbustu caducifoliu d'hasta 1 m d'altor. Cañes verdes anguloses y endrechaes. Les fueyes son ovales, alternes, coriacees, de color verde claru o daqué amarellentaes, colos márxenes finamente dentaos, caduques y con peciolu curtiu. Les flores son insignificantes de color verde rosáu con cinco pétalos y sépalos, prodúcense aisllaes o de dos en dos axilares en recímanos colgantes. El frutu ye una baga de color negru azuláu de sabor prestoso y agriduz.

Etimoloxía

Vaccinium: nome xenéricu que s'utilizó en llatín clásicu pa un tipu de baga (probablemente l'arándanu Vaccinium myrtillus ), pero la so última derivación ye escura, (nun ye la mesma pallabra que vaccinum = "d'o perteneciente a les vaques").[5]

myrtillus: epítetu latin que significa "como'l mirto".[6]

Sinonimia

Nome común

N'asturianu tamién se conoz como berezal[9], berezu[10] y raspanera[11]. Al frutu llámase-y arándanu[12].
