I've been able to piece things together myself and I only know one or two words but I need help!. I've been using google translate. Most often translations are not perfect but I've found that a lot of understandable text can be extracted and added to our sub stubs. Most of these districts have 100-200,000 people living in them and are one liners!Dr. BlofeldWhite cat16:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know, thats what I mean I have several hundred districts to get through alone, vast majority are one liners and have some good content on Vietnamese wikipedia. Sometime I will start the 9000 odd communes of Vietnam but I wish there were more people interested in it. I just need help from anybody to try to rid of our one line stubs and at least make these articles into something useful. Thats not to discredit Yellow Monkey for starting them, he did a great job starting them but there articles need people working on them. I suppose at least the direct google links will make it easier for anybody visiting the articles to try to expand them. The problem is the lack of people interested. If you aren't interested don't worry. Regards Dr. BlofeldWhite cat17:14, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't quite get that about the cow but yes developing the divisions of each country probably needs the most work on here and this is a huge amount to do. Shame we can't clone ourselves by several million and get these articles up to a decent status huh?Dr. BlofeldWhite cat17:30, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yes if the article is fully translated then the tags can be removed. At present I'm sorting out templates and stub sorting. I've created geo templates for every province and have sub categorised by region of Vietnam in which they upmerge to, so soon enough Vietnam geo stubs will be pretty much empty. Eventually when the communes are started this will make more sense to have seperate provincial geo templates. Thanks for creating the regional capitals cat, one less thing to do. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 15:31, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
The reason why I have created district templates by region is to not only connected more articles together
but I plan on altering all the existing provincial templates with the communes. See Template:Ca Mau Province. This is why I am making the change. Eventually the provincial templates will serve as commune templates and any other notable topics to be included for each province. FOr specific articles on districts my templates will serve the purpose for skirting around second level divisions. You'll have to trust me on that one Dr. BlofeldWhite cat15:53, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah when theres a lot of districts it seems less of a daunting task when we have more comprehensive templates by region to unite all the provinces. That way I think oh I only have 6 or 7 regions to do and not like 60-70 for each province!! Eventually we should have a better coverage and organisation, but especially in regards to filling out all the existing provincial templates with all the communes like Ca Mau it may take months. I should have the infoboxes and translation templates for the districts connected within a week or two though. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat16:01, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should move the page names to the Vietnamese titles and also add the suffix District per convention. He see most of the districts are also communes and villages of that name and when I get around to starting communes we will need to distinguish between them. So for instance Thu Thua should be moved to Thủ Thừa District I think. Could you help move these pages?. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat19:26, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes all but the town districts. The city names and towns which are urban districts should remain as they are I think. Let me know which you'll start on. Remember though that we will also need to fix the current links in the province articles and the templates I've done so far to avoid redirects, Dr. BlofeldWhite cat19:34, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The pages must be moved to Vietnamese names etc Tam Dương. This is how these appear on official maps even in English. So it should be Tam Dương District rather than Tam Duong or Tam Duong District, Dr. BlofeldWhite cat19:55, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was going through them and adding the new nav boxes at the same time. You'll have to create the other templates and make sure they go in the correct regional stub categories. You can see what I've done so far on the stub proposals page. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat 19:55, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
First of all though its probably best to add all the districts to the remaing four templates in Category:Vietnam district templates. This way when you stub sort you can replace the existing nav box
with the regional one at the same time. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat19:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey are you still up for Vietnam? I've created around 30 locator maps to date, and will try to create ones for all the districts. I'm hoping to get a bot to add the referenced data on these places too. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat18:35, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Rude silence
<crossposted, you guess where!> Sorry gents for the impolite silence to your messages on my page. RL, work and family are intruding on my wikitime significantly. When I do get online briefly very late at night, I'm finding account creation, my 2,000 Cambodian article watchlist, the Cambodian Wikiproject, my district expansion/DYK project and a massive backlog of ref errors and orphans, which I swear I will reduce, are eating up every minute I can spend on the wiki (and they are all behind schedule as well). This week the main Cambodia article has also finally been put up for WP:FAR, something I've been predicting and worrying about since 2007. Shit. I'm determined not to let it be de-listed. All this means I am neglecting my wiki correspondence badly. I'm usually logged into irc://freenode/wikipedia-en-accounts when I'm on wiki for account creation purposes (I'm not a big irc fan otherwise). It's not a bad forum for quick chats and a shout of 'Paxse' in the channel will always get my attention. I'm going to try to catch up on some of my partially expanded Banteay Meanchey districts on Sundays, perhaps expect some more interaction then :) Now back to finishing this damn report. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 07:40, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had a quick look and also changed Yasothan in to Yasothon. I could't see any other spelling mistakes in the cat:Provinces of Thailand but I could be wrong.
I do have a question though: Why don't Bangkok and Chiang Mai have the word "Province" in their category? That would mean that, for instance, Amphoe Omkoi would not be categorised in this system. Takeaway (talk) 16:48, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Vietnam
I would greatly appreciate if you copy and paste the Vietnamese text of each district into the article talk pages like Talk:Ô Môn. My internet connection currently freezes when I access Vietnamese wiki so I can't access it, if however it is in the tlak pages I can translate as soon as possible and remove the tag. Its just soon enough I will be wanting to start the communes and I will need to copy and paste the names into the existing provincial templates anyway. What would be useful then actually is if you can copy and paste from Vietnamese wikipedia into the article talk pages and then I can use google translate and sort it out. If you could do Template:Districts of Mekong Delta from Chau Phu An Giang onwards this would be great. Dr. BlofeldWhite cat15:08, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thats great, best ot do it a province or two at a time. Albert Herring hopefully can work with you for a few minutes whenever you can to help. Regards Dr. BlofeldWhite cat18:02, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments. I completely agree about the over emphasis on the West. I'll try to be attentive to importance ratings, and, yes, do feel free to edit any that you find inaccurate. It is wikipedia, a collaborative effort. Thanks again.Gallador (talk) 16:58, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you :)
Very very good idea indeed. You are single handedly driving poor old NewArtBot into an early grave - keep it up! I'll watchlist them all. I'd like time to turn them all into DYKs as well, but I don't like my chances. I'm more than happy to help out with any admin (or editor) type stuff, just give me a yell. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 14:32, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:Kanyakumari District]] to articles/subcategories that belong in it.
I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.
If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.
It's an illegal username as well as an SPA account. Let me finish a couple of things off and then I'll take care of it. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 03:59, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done! [2] Thanks for pointing that one out. Let me know if you see any others. Now that the article is more likely to be stable, how about we move it to a better name, expand it and try to get it on the front page (it could be the first Vietnamese Bank on the Main Page!) Cheers, Paxse (talk) 04:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good to hear from you...
... I'm just back from our Cambodian New Year break. Managed to make my way up various mountains to the depths of Veal Veng district while we were in Pursat. It's beautiful country up there. The logging has yet to completely denude the landscape and the Cardamom Mountains start about 80 kilometres from the border and roll all the way to Thailand. Very shitty road - took 5 hours (to cover 105 kilometres) to get in from Highway 5 but well worth it to see some of the remaining forest. Thanks for pointing me to these deletion debates - I do appreciate it. At the same time, I find the various XfD processes (particularly AfD) the most stressful and frustrating parts of Wikipedia. About 12 months ago I decided to stop browsing AfD to make my wiki time more pleasant. Before that I was fairly active, saving some articles, winning some battles and losing others. In a very roundabout way, I'm getting around to giving a piece of advice. Feel free to ignore it or scoff as you like :) I'm sure you will anyway. Please be careful not to let the dishonesties and the lack of good faith at AfD turn you off the project. It is the worst side of Wikipedia, our own little Heart of Darkness at the core of the project. There are some wonderful people of high integrity working at AfD, User:DGG is the most amazing that I know, it looks like Julius Sahara is another. However, it also seems to be the place for many editors to bring out their bigotry, grudges, lemming-esque indifference, indirect personal attacks and various personal crusades - screw that for a game of soldiers. AfD is where the encyclopaedia gets torn down, piece by maddening piece, by process mavens and small people with points to prove. After participating quite actively for quite a long time, I gave it away. I return sometimes to save an obvious keeper through referencing and expansion. But honestly my time is better spent writing and expanding content. I'm not suggesting you should do the same (someone has to keep up the good fight at AfD!) or that you should stop letting me know about juicy deletion debates (I still enjoy an argument from time to time!), just for God's sake don't get burnt out on that damn place. You create invaluable content in many under served areas and the 'pedia is better off (and a nicer place) for having you around. I hope you and yours are very well indeed. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 18:19, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm hoping to get this one of yours expanded to 1500 characters+ in the next few days - to be on the main page as a DYK for Vesak on May 9th - care to help out? Google books has a truckload of nice sources... Hope you are very well. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 17:29, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My point was that Category:Omo River should be a subcategory of Category:Lake Turkana; that doesn't exclude it from being under other categories. If that makes sense to you -- maybe we should make the change. If not -- well, it would help if I knew what should be included in the first category; are places in the watershed excluded? -- llywrch (talk) 20:57, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, how are you? I haven't done much work on southeast Asia of late, although I did xpand a few Burmese town articles and improved a temple in Vientiane a few weeks ago. I got rather frustrated with the lack of sources on the communes. At present I'm working on Ladakh and Nepalese kings they are ALL missing, I'm trying to draw up something comprehensive using google books and a book I have... Incidentally Paxse came back from TIbet on a trip and returned for like a day and then went AWOL again.. Himalayan21:32, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have nominated Somali Irrigation, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Somali Irrigation. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

A tag has been placed on Techno Brain, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

We are a team of researchers at the University of Oxford and AU Sharjah, researching the experiences of editors of content about the Arab world on Wikipedia. We are interested in your experiences of editing Wikipedia and are organising two events that we think you would be an excellent contributor to.
First, we are hosting an online wiki focus group about contributing to Wikipedia in Arabic and to articles about the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in what barriers you perceive to exist in Wikipedia, how articles can be made better and generally what can be done to expand and improve Arabic Wikipedia and Wikipedia articles about the Arab world. This discussion will take place on a MediaWiki hosted at our institution and be available in English and Arabic. We will allow users to create their own discussion pages in addition to our discussions.
Second, we are hosting face-to-face workshops in Cairo from 21st-22nd October 2012. If you are interested in this we should be able to pay travel and accommodation costs for up to twenty participants. This workshop will cover similar themes to the online discussion but will allow participants to meet one another and benefit from being together.
We will take care of the organization and planning and all you have to do is show up and be ready to discuss. But if you would like to help shape some of the discussion themes in advance, please let us know. We have booked time in the workshops for Wikipedian-led discussions.
More details can be found by expanding our “Frequently Asked Questions” below.
We would be delighted to welcome you to either (or both) event. Please let us know ([email protected]) if you would like the opportunity to participate and we can send you more details.
This project is about who represents the Arab World on Wikipedia, and how the Middle East and the Arab world is represented on Wikipedia. We are studying Wikipedia through statistics, edit history data and personal experiences. Our ultimate goal is to help Wikipedia grow in size and fairness and do academic research on this topic. You can read more about the project here. From this page, you can also find a biography of the researchers. You may also want to see our interactive visualizations about Wikipedia.
Who is funding this project?
This project is funded by the International Development Research Centre (http://www.idrc.ca). This organization is funded by the Canadian government to improve infrastructure across the world, including online content. We have been working with the IDRC since June 2010.
Why did you contact me?
Because you’re awesome. In all seriousness, we have been looking through Wikipedia for active editors based on user activity in either Arabic Wikipedia or articles about the Arab world. We have not contacted everyone we could, but we contact people that we think will help to balance the discussion and help us (and each other) learn more about the state of Wikipedia.
Do I need to participate in both events?
Not at all. You are welcome to participate in both or just one. We recognise that it will be more convenient for some people to have online conversations and for others to speak in person. For some people it will not be practical to fly to the Middle East, but we still consider their contributions important and want to give them a voice in this work.
Can I use my Wikipedia handle in the online discussion?
You do not need to use any particular name on the online forum. All we need is a valid email address so you can register. You can post using your real name, your Wikipedia name or a completely different nickname, whatever allows you to speak your mind most effectively.
What sort of travel funding will you supply for the face-to-face workshop?
We have funding for travel and accommodation costs for approximately twenty participants depending on where they are coming from. If you would like to join us in one of the face-to-face meetings then we will do our best to get you there. The exact amount of support we can offer will depend on how many expressions of interest we get and their distance from the chosen venue.
Can I get involved and help to organize sessions?
Yes, but this is completely optional. Our first priority is organizing a space for people to attend, talk about Wikipedia, and discuss how to expand and improve it. However, if you want to help organize discussions, advise on venues or facilitate specific conversations, please let us know.
The discussion we have already organised/planned will focus generally on barriers that people perceive to exist when editing Wikipedia either in Arabic or about topics related to the Arab world. But if there is any particular angle of conversation that you’d like to focus on and start a discussion about then please let us know and we can either incorporate it in the programme or let you lead that part of the conversation.
Will the face-to-face meeting be public?
The meeting won’t be open to the broader public in order to facilitate focused discussions about the topics of greatest concern. We will compile a summary research report of the discussions. People can choose how/if they want to be identified, and a draft version of this document will be circulated to everyone who participates.
What if I don’t live in the Middle East or North Africa?
We would still very much encourage you to participate in the online discussion. However, we think it is unlikely that we will be able to fly you in for the in person workshops. If you can pay your own way, we may still be able to provide you with hotel expenses. In short, talk to us and we will see what we can do.
Will these events be in English or Arabic?
Both events will be designed to accommodate English and Arabic speakers. The online discussion will have tracks for both languages and the workshops will have simultaneous English and Arabic sessions that you can choose between (as well as coming-together sessions to share experiences). Three of the researchers speak English as a first language and three speak Arabic as a first language.
Hello! You might or might not have seen me around here as I've not been active in Wikipedia the past few months. Before leaving for NS, it was my intention to form a Malaysian user group. I'm still very much interested in forming the group. However, before forming the group, I would love to organize a meet-up between editors of the Malaysian editing community to test the waters and hear what you guys might have to say. To my knowledge, there has not been a Wikipedia meet-up in this country before. I don't mind organizing the meet-up but need to know if anyone is interested in joining the meet-up. So... please reply and let me know if you would be interested in joining a meet-up and your ideas/thoughts about a user group. Thank you.
Hello, thank you for participating in WikiProject Malaysia! As per my previous message and the responses made, I'm organizing an informal Skype conference call on February 5th, 20:00 - 21:30 (Malaysian time). I'd love for you to join this chat. If you do not have a Skype but wish to join the chat, let me know and I'll try to work something out. iFurther details can be found at the Meetups page. You can also leave any suggestions or comments on that page. Please RVSP and hope to "meet" you there! Bejinhantalks14:20, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Vilanculos District, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Vattanac Bank requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.01:34, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.11:16, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't notice who it was who had marked it for deletion--I think this would need discussion at afd, not speedy, so I undeleted it. . But I urge you to add some additional third party references. DGG ( talk ) 16:37, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
