Charles Alistair Geoffrey Dewhirst[1] is a British Conservative Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Bridlington and The Wolds since 2024.[2]

Early life

Dewhirst comes from a pig farming family near Driffield in East Yorkshire.[3] Dewhirst attended the University of Edinburgh before moving to London to begin a career in sports broadcasting. Dewhirst then worked as a parliamentary aide before working for a global communications agency, where he was involved in the introduction of the Groceries Code Adjudicator.[3]

Political career

In 2010 Dewhirst was elected to a councillor role for the Conservatives in Hammersmith, and in 2012 he joined UK Sport shortly before the 2012 Olympic Games.[4]

Dewhirst was the Conservative candidate for the constituency of Hammersmith in the 2015 general election[5][4] and the 2017 general election.[6][7]

He was the deputy leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.[8] Immediately prior to beginning his parliamentary campaign, he was the chief policy adviser for the National Pig Association,[9] who Dewhirst started working for in 2020.[3]
