The council was under no overall control prior to the election. Labour had won a majority at the previous full council election in 2019, but lost its majority in 2022 following a by-election.[3] Labour regained a majority at the 2023 election, winning 29 of the 43 seats on the council.[4]
The Statement of Persons Nominated, which details the candidates standing in each ward, was released by High Peak Borough Council following the close of nominations on 5 April 2023.[6]
