Die Laeveld is 'n geografiese deel van die provinsies Mpumalanga en Limpopo oos van die Drakensbergse platorand. Die streek, wat selfs by die hoogste punte nie hoër as 600 m bo seespieël is nie, het 'n subtropiese klimaat met 'n gemiddelde reënval van meer as 1 000 mm per jaar.

Die Laeveld is die spil van die land se subtropiese vrugtebedryf. Die reeks produkte is omvattend en sluit onder andere in mango’s, lietsjies, papajas, piesangs en avokado’s. Voeg hierby 'n volledige reeks sitrusvrugte, pekan- en ander neute, suikerriet, tabak en hout van die uitheemse bosse wat vele berghellings bedek. Die streek is ook die land se wintergroentespens. Varsproduktemarkte in Gauteng en elders word deur die geil boorde van die Laeveld voorsien wanneer die ysige winde uit die suide in Junie oor die Hoëveld begin waai.

Vir die toeris is die Laeveld die land van natuur- en wildreservate. Dit is die tuiste van die Nasionale Krugerwildtuin, asook heelwat privaatreservate. Die Laeveld is ook belangrik vir sy minerale: by Phalaborwa word die wêreld se derde grootste neerslag van fosfaat gemyn. Ander belangrike minerale is koper, mika, vermikuliet en yster. Die dorpe van die Laeveld is relatief jonk, hoofsaaklik van die 20ste eeu. Suid-Afrika se “koorsgordel” is eers na die Tweede Wêreldoorlog vir mens en plaasdier veilig gemaak toe die malariamuskiet onder beheer gebring is.
