Yohanes Krisostomus

Yohanes Krisostomus (bahasa Yunani Ιωάννης ο Χρυσόστομος, Ioannes Chrysostomos), 347-407, adalah Uskup Agung Konstantinopel. Dia tersohor karena kefasihannya dalam berkhotbah dan berpidato di muka umum, penentangannya terhadap penyalahgunaan wewenang baik oleh para pemimpin gereja maupun para pemimpin politik, Liturgi Santo Yohanes Krisostomus, dan sensibilitas asketiknya. Sesudah kematiannya, dia diberi julukan Chrysostomos, kata Yunani yang berarti "Si Mulut Emas", ditransliterasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia menjadi Krisostomus.[1][2]

Gereja Ortodoks dan Gereja-Gereja Katolik Timur menghormatinya sebagai seorang santo (hari peringatan, 13 November) dan menempatkannya sebagai salah satu dari Tiga Hierark Kudus (hari peringatan, 30 Januari), bersama Santo Basil Agung dan Santo Gregorius sang Teolog. Dia diakui oleh Gereja Katolik Roma sebagai seorang santo dan Pujangga Gereja. Gereja-Gereja Barat, termasuk Gereja Katolik Roma, Gereja Inggris, dan Gereja Lutheran memperingatinya tiap tanggal 13 September. Relikui Yohanes Krisostomus diambil dari Konstantinopel oleh para prajurit Perang Salib IV pada tahun 1204 dan dibawa ke Roma, namun dikembalikan pada tanggal 27 November 2004 oleh Paus Yohanes Paulus II.[3]

Krisostomus dikenal dalam Kekristenan terutama sebagai seorang pengkhotbah dan pakar liturgi, khususnya dalam Gereja Ortodoks Timur. Di luar tradisi Kristiani, Krisostomus dikenal karena delapan khotbahnya yang cukup berperan dalam sejarah Antisemitisme Kristiani, dan digunakan secara ekstensif oleh Nazi dalam kampanye ideologis mereka menentang kaum Yahudi.[4][5]

Dia kadang kala disebut Yohanes dari Antiokhia, akan tetapi nama itu lebih tepat digunakan untuk menyebut uskup Antiokhia yang bernama Yohanes (429-441), yang memimpin sekelompok uskup Timur moderat dalam kontroversi Nestorianisme. Yohanes Krisostomus juga secara keliru dikira adalah orang yang sama dengan Dio Chrysostom.
