Suku Awyu, disebut juga sebagai Auyu atau Awya, kelompok etnis yang mendiami daerah aliran Sungai Digul di pesisir Papua Selatan, Indonesia.[2][3] Di daerah tersebut juga didiami oleh orang Yahrai (Yaghai) dan di sebelah baratnya terdapat orang Muyu. Jumlah populasi suku ini sekitar 27.300 jiwa.[1] Mata pencarian suku ini mayoritas sebagai peramu dan pemburu. Makanan pokok masyarakat Awyu adalah sagu, ikan, dan udang yang ditangkap di sungai.

Menurut Joshua Project, suku Awyu terbagi menjadi beberapa sub-suku, yakni Aghu, Nohon (Awyu Tengah), Pisa (Asue), Jair, dan Awyu Selatan.[1]

Bahasa

Bahasa yang digunakan oleh suku Awyu merupakan bahasa Awyu yang termasuk kedalam rumpun Bahasa Papua yang terbagi atas 5 hingga 11 dialek, beberapa yaitu Asue, Pisa, Pasue, Aghu, Jair (sungai Edera, Kia Atas, Kia Bawah), Yenimu (Oser), dan Shiaxa (Siagha).[2][4]
