Penghargaan Film Nasional ke-17, yang dipersembahkan oleh Kementerian Informasi dan Penyiaran India untuk menentukan yang terbaik dari sinema India yang dirilis pada 1969.[1][2] Acaranya diadakan di University Centenary Auditorium, Madras pada 21 November 1970.

Pada Penghargaan Film Nasional ke-17, sebuah penghargaan baru diperkenalkan, untuk menghormati Bapak Sinema India, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, yang lebih dikenal sebagai Dadasaheb Phalke, yang selama bertahun-tahun menjadi penghargaan Sinema India paling disorot dan diimpi-impikan. Dinamai sebagai Penghargaan Dadasaheb Phalke, diperkenalkan untuk menghargai jasa-jasa tokoh-tokoh perfilman terhadap pengembangan Sinema India. Dimulai dengan hari kelahiran keseratus Phalke (1969), penghargaan tersebut diberikan secara tahunan.

Juri

Enam komite berbeda dibentuk berdasarkan pada sektor pembuatan film di India, yang utamanya berbasis di Bombay, Kalkuta dan Madras bersama dengan kategori-kategori penghargaan. Komite lainnya untuk tingkat seluruh India juga dibentuk yang meliputi beberapa anggota dari komite kewilayahan. Pada Penghargaan Film Nasional ke-17, komite pusat dikepalai oleh Hakim G. D. Khosla.[1][2]
