Namahage

Seorang penari memakai kostum Namahage di stasiun Akita.

Namahage (生剥)[1] adalah sosok siluman (yōkai) dalam cerita rakyat Jepang. Karakter siluman tersebut biasanya diperankan oleh lelaki dengan memakai topeng oni (setan Jepang) dan jubah jerami tradisional Jepang (mino) selama perayaan Tahun Baru[2] di Tanjung Oga[3] kawasan prefektur Akita di Honshū Utara, Jepang.[4]

Saat diperankan, Namahage dipersenjatai dengan pisau deba (meskipun tiruan[3] atau dibuat dengan kertas) dan ember teoke (手桶, ember kayu),[2] berjalan berpasangan atau bertiga dari rumah ke rumah, menegur anak-anak yang nakal atau malas,[2] dengan melontarkan kalimat seperti: "Apa ada anak cengeng?" (泣く子はいねがぁ, Nakuko wa inee gā?)[5] atau "Apa ada anak nakal?" (悪い子はいねえか, Waruiko wa inee ka?) dengan logat daerah di sana.
