Museum Tosan Aji adalah bangunan yang didirikan atas prakarsa Menteri Dalam Negeri Soepardjo Rustam dan diresmikan pada tanggal 13 April 1987 oleh Gubernur Jawa Tengah, Ismail.[1] Museum ini terletak di Jalan Setiabudi No. 1 Kabupaten Purworejo, Jawa Tengah, tetapi dipindahkan ke Gedung Pengadilan Negeri Kabupaten Purworejo yang terletak di Jalan Mayjend Sutoyo No. 10, Purworejo, Jawa Tengah pada tahun 2001.[1][2]Tujuan museum ini dibangun adalah untuk menjaga dan melestarikan berbagai koleksi tosan aji, yang merupakan salah satu bentuk hasil budaya bangsa pada masa lampau sekaligus warisan nenek moyang.

Sejarah

Pada awal diresmikan tanggal 13 April 1987, Museum Tosan Aji berlokasi di Pendopo Kawedanan Kutoarjo. Kemudian sebagai upaya mewujudkan lokasi terpadu beberapa bangunan bersejarah, museum ini dipindahkan ke Purworejo pada tanggal 10 Juni 2001 menempati bangunan bekas Pengadilan pada masa Belanda, berdampingan dengan Masjid Agung Darul Muttaqin di sebelah barat alun-alun sementara Museum Tosan Aji di sebelah selatan.[1]

Koleksi

Koleksi Tosan Aji berasal dari masa kerajaan dan Majapahit, antara lain keris, pedang, cundrik, tombak, dan lain-lain. Selain itu juga terdapat berbagai benda cagar budaya dari masa pra sejarah maupun masa klasik berupa patung, prasasti, yoni, lingga, lumpang, batu pipisan, guci, batu gong, menhir, dan lain-lain. Museum ini juga menyimpan gamelan kuno kyai Cokronagoro yang merupakan hadiah dari Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono VI kepada Bupati Purworejo I, Cokronagoro I.[3]
