Krueng Cunda adalah suatu sungai berupa aliran laut yang memisahkan daratan Lhokseumawe dengan daratan pulau Sumatra di Indonesia, sekitar 1700 km di barat laut ibu kota Jakarta.[1]

Etimologi

Namanya berasal dari bahasa Aceh "Krueng" artinya sungai dan "Cunda" adalah nama wilayah yang dialiri oleh sungai ini. Krueng Cunda sebenarnya adalah selat, bukan sungai.

Geografi

Sungai ini mengalir di wilayah utara pulau Sumatra yang beriklim hutan hujan tropis (kode: Af menurut klasifikasi iklim Köppen-Geiger).[2] Suhu rata-rata setahun sekitar 25 °C. Bulan terpanas adalah Agustus, dengan suhu rata-rata 26 °C, and terdingin Desember, sekitar 22 °C.[3] Curah hujan rata-rata tahunan adalah 2568 mm. Bulan dengan curah hujan tertinggi adalah Desember, dengan rata-rata 572 mm, dan yang terendah Maret, rata-rata 114 mm.[4]

Pemanfaatan

Krueng Cunda ini dijadikan tempat budidaya ikan air asin oleh penduduk sekitar, karena selain airnya cukup bersih juga tidak ada ombak atau riak besar yang dapat merusak keramba atau penampungan ikan milik penduduk yang rata - rata dibuat dari kayu dan bambu.
