Kapasa adalah nama sebuah kelurahan di Kecamatan Tamalanrea, Kota Makassar, Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. Kelurahan ini memiliki luas wilayah 1,69 km² yang terdiri dari 37 RT dan 7 RW. Secara astronomis, kelurahan ini berada pada titik koordinat 5°07'10.40" LS dan 119°30'09.00" BT. Jumlah penduduk Kelurahan Kapasa pada tahun 2019 tercatat 19.328 jiwa, yang terdiri atas 9.542 jiwa laki-laki dan 9.786 jiwa perempuan. Kantor kelurahan ini beralamat di Jl. Biring Romang Lorong 7 No. 73, Kota Makassar.^[1]

Kronik nama

Secara etimologis, nama Kapasa diambil dalam bahasa Makassar, yakni kapasa' yang berarti "kapas" atau "tanaman kapas". Pengucapan kapasa' yang diakhiri konsonan letup direalisasikan sebagai bunyi hentian glotal. Dalam bahasa Makassar, kapasa artinya kapas yang menyimbolkan putih, suci, dan bersih. Sewaktu pemerintahan Kerajaan Gowa-Tallo, Kapasa merupakan sebuah kerajaan kecil bersama dengan beberapa kerajaan kecil lainnya, yaitu Kerajaaan Paccerakkang, Sudiang, Moncongloe, Bira, dan lainnya. Kerajaan Kapasa dipimpin olen seorang raja yang bersih dan suci bernama Lamba Daeng Makkalu yang bergelar Buleng-Bulengna Kapasa, artinya orang yang suci dan bersih. Bahwa dari hal tersebut, maka seiring dengan perubahan sistem pemerintahan, wilayah bekas Kerajaan Kapasa yang dipimpin oleh seorang pemimpin yang bersih dan suci, tetap diabadikan namanya dengan nama Kelurahan Kapasa. Kemudian melihat perkembangan wilayah untuk mempermudah akses pelayanan masyarakat, maka pada tahun 2015 Kelurahan Kapasa dimekarkan menjadi 2 kelurahan, yaitu Kelurahan Kapasa dan Kelurahan Kapasa Raya.^[1]
