Hopea, tekam,cengal atau merawan adalah genus tumbuhan dalam keluarga Dipterocarpaceae . Ini berisi sekitar 113 spesies, tersebar dari Sri Lanka dan India selatan hingga Kepulauan Andaman, Myanmar, Cina selatan, dan ke selatan melalui Malesia hingga Papua . Pohon-pohon tersebut sebagian besar merupakan pohon utama dan pohon subkanopi di hutan hujan dataran rendah, namun beberapa spesies juga dapat menjadi pohon baru, misalnya Hopea nutans .

Botani

Pohon dalam genus ini berukuran kecil atau sedang, tetapi kadang-kadang dapat tumbuh besar. Mereka memiliki cabang yang rendah dan terkadang akar penopang yang tebal. Kulit batangnya berwarna coklat kecokelatan dan halus pada awalnya, tetapi kemudian retak dan berbintik-bintik abu-abu.[1]
