Burton Blatt

Burton Blatt (1927-1985), adalah seorang pemimpin dalam gerakan deinstitusionalisasi orang-orang dengan keterbelakangan mental. Kariernya dimulai dengan berprofesi sebagai guru kelas khusus di sekolah-sekolah umum di New York. Pada tahun 1956 setelah meraih tingkat doktoral di Universitas Pennsylvania dalam bidang pendidikan khusus, ia bekerja pada beberapa fakultas di Universitas Boston dan Southern Connecticut State College. Blatt bergabung dengan Syracuse University pada tahun 1969 dan bekerja sebagai dekan dari tahun 1976 sampai akhir hidupnya tahun 1985.[1]

Centre on Human Policy pada Universitas Syracuse didirikan oleh Blatt pada tahun 1971 untuk mencurahkan perhatiannya pada studi dan promosi dari open settings bagi orang-orang dengan keterbelakangan mental dan kelainan- kelainan lain. Jasanya itu merupakan bentuk dari dorongan kemanusiaan yang besar sebagai seorang pemimpin. [1]
